Thanks guys, I'm now strongly considering the Panasonic 14mm 2.5. What's the image quality of that one vs. the Olympus 14-42mm IIR (non pancake) kit lens? I'm especially looking at sharpness at 14mm. Distortion I can deal with.

Thanks again!

The tiny Panasonic 14mm 2.5 is a very high quality lens, as is the 20/1.7, both older Panasonic pancakes.

The 14 just pops on my 12 mp E-PM1, and is also very sharp on my E-M10. If you can find a used one for a low price, all the better.

The kit lens is less capable.

All right I saw an eBay offer on a used 14mm I couldn't pass up so I pulled the trigger.

And yes the camera is (barely) pocketable without any lens, so hopefully it will be pocketable with this 14mm. If not I'll sell it and get a Panasonic or PEN.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

I'm sure you will be pleased!

I used to get some 'rattlesnaking ' with it on my PL1 but it seems fine on the E-M10.

In bars with a kit lens you may not be happy with the results. There may be too much noise in dim light. I would suggest buying a fast prime f1.8 or faster.

f2.5 is OK but personally I would go for f1.8 or better.

I'm sure those ƒ1.8s are great but they're a little too big and a lot too expensive for me.

The 20mm f/1.7 is the slimmest fast prime, and also one of the cheapest. Focus is slower than the newer primes but it's fast enough.

Well you have to factor into the price whether the lens will do the job you want. If it leaves you wanting it's a waste if money.

True, but 20mm in M43 is unfortunately not even close to wide enough for the relatively small, crowded interiors I'll be using it for.

Actually, the P. 14mm f2.5 is slimmer and of course, much wider.

Received the 14mm a couple of days ago. Very pleased with the brightness and especially the great colors the lens captures!

Distortion is noticeable but easily correctable.

Congratulations! The 14's seem to have uniformly good quality. Mine seems to be sharper than my 20/1.7.
