Convergence of Jupiter & Venus
13

As a clear(ish) evening was forecast last Saturday I took the XT1 & tripod with me on a fishing expedition off the rocks.

Managed to capture a nice (I think so anyway) shot of the convergence of Jupiter & Venus, just a shame I couldn't keep my head still for the length of the exposure.

Image is taken at Omaha, NZ. XT1 and 14mm lens. Iso 3200, F3.6 at 25seconds. Shot raw and processed in C1, some additional tweaks to contrast done in Perfect Photo.

(the fishing was terrible, it seems the fish weren't that excited by the astronomical event).

Nice pic of a beautiful, serene evening!  I love the way that the part of the sky you were focusing on is illuminated by the city lights from across the bay

Beats the kind of Winter fishing that we have around here!  (Ever been "hard-water" fishing?)

One of the things that I really like about night-fishing, especially in the North Woods up here - is that when you get away from the city lights, you see so many more stars.  A few years back, I was fishing from shore and the Northern Lights were putting on one helluva show - like green and pink dancing silk curtains in the sky)

I've never had any luck fishing when Venus is in conjunctuoon with Jupiter - that's always been my excuse anyway. I really like your picture and I'm surprised at how large the planes are in an image taken with the 14 mm.

The sky is full of holes that let the rain get in, the holes are very small - that's why the rain is thin.

Curious, is Venus the bigger/brighter  object in this shot ?

Re: Convergence of Jupiter & Venus

Correct. The brighter 'star' is venus.
