I too was very disaspointed to find that WiFi remote control would not work with DPP on a PC. I don't even think that that there is an error mesaage to explain why you can't connect so that you don't waste time trying to do it. It is especially frustrating to think that that this is a marketing restriction, not technical. Oh, and it's a real copout to say it's in the manual. When buying a camera, you take note of the marketing material, you don't read the manual.

Airnef can connect your computer to your camera via WiFi. I used it to transfer my images over WiFi from my Canon 750d

I think most of the complaints refer to the fact that you can't use Canon DPP (Digital Photo Professional) to control the xxxD series cameras over WiFi. This is a marketing strategy by Canon but the restriction is not clear in the marketing material. Remote control via WiFi is one of the selling points of the 750D/760D. Mention is made if the tablet apps but it is not stated that WiFi will not work with DPP. I, and many others I think, did not make this discovery until we had purchased the camera.

Agreed.

The cost of the camera is very high. It's out of order Canon asserting our models don't qualify for that feature, especially when the hardware is capable, and the software already written and working for even dearer models. Ours are clearly high end expensive cameras.

P.s I've never met another person who uses DPP. It's great hey (other than no remote control for our cameras).

Actually, I should have said EOS Utulity as far as remote control is concerned. DPP is pretty useful of course.

I think that Canon says that EOS Utility over WiFi is for the "professional" market, but it works via USB for the xxxD cameras so I think that this is an arbitrary distinction.

The Advertising Standards Authority here in the UK have investigated my conversations with Canon UK and have agreed that Canons advertising should be changed to reflect all the models concerned lack of full WiFi connectivity.

"We think you have a valid point and we will instruct the advertiser to ensure that this is sufficiently qualified in the marketing material."

"If the advertisers don’t co-operate with us, we may have to think about other ways to resolve your complaint, including conducting a formal investigation that involves the ASA Council."

It`s not over yet, but nice to make some progress at last.

A rare recognition of this type of issue. I, for one, was unaware of the limitation until I spent quite some time trying to control the camera over WiFi from my PC. In my opinion, the documentation doesn’t give enough prominence to this restriction.
