750D 760d T6i T6s - Does not support remote control over WiFi from PC :(
1

Hi,

Got my 760D yesterday, and now discovered, that I cannot sync my photos or control camera over WIFI to Windows PC. There is no EOS utility icon in camera Wifi menu. Of course WIFI connection to Android, TV, Printer, Cloud works..

This feature exists on 6D, 70D

Does any other solution exist to Sync to PC sync over WIFI?

The USB cable provides high speed data transfers.  Why would you want to use a WIFI connection?

Product differentiation. 70D WiFi enables remote operation via EOS Utility. The lower featured, lower priced 760D/T6S and 750D/T6i do not.

Your response does not answer the question or provide any support whatsoever.

Re: 750D 760d T6i T6s - Does not support remote control over WiFi from PC :(

Are you saying that the 760D does not have wi-fi to a PC?

I'm a bit confused because I cannot get mine to connect to my Windows 8 computer. I have found info on connecting it to a smartphone but not a computer. The camera has a setting for connecting to smartphones, other cameras, printers, the web, and what appears to be a desktop computer based on the icon.

But the EOS Utility is not seeing the camera even after I connect it to my network.

The manual also shows that you can view the wireless LAN connection status but it doesn't show you how to do it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think EOS Utility via Wi-Fi is simply not there.

70D Wi-Fi instruction manual specifically lists one of the Wi-Fi options as (4) Operate Camera remotely using EOS Utility.

760D Wi-Fi instruction manual does not list that as an option.

I like to take photos cable-free .. and check them right away on PC.. In house or in field..

Cable connection by definition is yesterday .. there will be no USB ports in future.

This was one of my pet peeves with the T6s when I had it (and one of the many reasons why I ended up going with the 70D instead).

Canon basically left that entire option off the wifi menus. Notice there are only 5 icons on the menu? The 6th one was the EOS utility option that, among other things, allowed you to download pics to a pc.

A work around is to send all your photos to your Google Drive and if you are running the Google sync utility on your PC, Google Drive will sync the photos to your pc.

The EOS utility simply doesn't work with the T6s/i. Canon should have at least allowed the utility to download pics via wifi and just disabled the remote shooting part. Kind of petty on Canon's part IMO.

Thanks for this info. It helps a lot. And a great workaround using Google Drive. I don't use Google Drive but maybe it will work the same with Microsoft OneDrive.

Unfortunately, (as of now) Canon doesn't offer OneDrive as a web service. For this type of service, I think your only choice is Google Drive. Other than Google Drive, they offer uploading directly to places like Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Canon's own Image storage site and a couple others(depending on your country).

I just spoke with a support person at Canon who confirmed that you cannot transfer photos from the T6s or T6i to a desktop PC via the camera's wi-fi function.

Canon's phone support is outstanding. I got through to someone very quickly and they were able to answer my question. Kudos to this type of customer service. More companies should operate like Canon.

If canon allowed customers to choose where they want to store or send their photos, perhaps their support team would not be so necessary.
I think it should be MY choice and not canon's whether I send photos to Google or iMage Gateway or OneDrive (my preference).  I am paying for OneDrive (1TB) as part of an office subscription - why should I want to spread my photos out all over the web.

But, yes, Canon support is quick and informative - by phone or email!

Re: 750D 760d T6i T6s - Does not support remote control over WiFi from PC :(

It is unfortunate. They market the device as WiFi, yet they intentionally disable parts of it. Wifi works just fine for Smartphone connections, but not PC. So, to upload pictures to your PC, you have to disable Wifi, dig out the cable, and plug it into your PC. That is a very poor decision.

Re: 750D 760d T6i T6s - Does not support remote control over WiFi from PC :(

It's not just unfortunate - in Australia it's against the law.

Their marketing material as well as their website both said "connect direct to a computer over wifi" - after I alerted them to this their website text changed (gotta love screen shot utilities!).

All of their marketing material made a big deal out of being able to connect to wifi over a computer....there is a post on the canon website that talks about them taking it up with their engineers so the hope is that an software patch will fix it in the future (http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/EOS-Rebel/Just-bought-a-T6i-with-wireless-and-NFC-but-the-2-Canon-apps-say/td-p/139784)  - I would be incredibly surprised if they don't fix this...I know Australia is not the only jurisdiction with product advertising legislation - I'd imagine they're exposing themselves in Europe also.

Isn't there a phone app for remote control?

Unfortunate you didn't figure out how to download pics to a PC from the T6s because this is how it's done.

You CAN use Wi-Fi to transfer your pictures from your T6s/T6i to your computer.

Press: Menu>wench1>Wi-Fi/NFC choose "enable"

Go back to the menu, select "Wi-Fi Function

Select the monitor picture, "View images on DLNA devices"

You are given 3 options, Choose "find network", OK is then highlighted, select it.

Your camera then looks for wireless networks, and produces a list. Select your network, and hit "ok".

At this point, it asks me to enter my network password:
1. Enter 8-63 ASCII charactors
2. Enter 64 hexadecimal char.
If you have chosen a different level of security for your wireless network, things will be different.

You are presented with a mini keyboard, enter your password, select "ok"

The next page is "ip address set", select "auto"

After a few seconds of "busy", you get the "Connection" screen.

That's it, you're connected to your network. Two options are listed:

1. Disconnect, exit --select when your done
2. Confirm set. --select gives you access to 4 pages of your network connection settings.
Put the camera down, go to your computer. Windows 10, should be similar for others

1. select window (start) button>"file explorer"
2. select "this PC" from the list.

Under "network locations" there is a black, square icon, with the letters "EOS" Labeled, "Canon EOS Rebel T6s"
Double click the EOS icon and then "SD folder">> "100 canon" >>(numbered picture folders. That's it, your pictures. Once you setup your connection you can choose it again without entering all the info over again.

I and most sincerely doubt that the USB port is going the way of the floppy. It is and will be a staple on computers for many years to come.

So if I understand correctly the 7x0D cannot act as an adhoc host to which the EOS Utility connects, but it can certainly join an existing Wi-Fi network as a client and show up as a network drive?
