NX60mm F2.8 on Koh Lanta (Thailand)
3

These are some from last year I only just got around to post processing. I was traveling through Thailand at the time of the Loy Krathong festival - if you google "Loy Krathong", you'll see hundreds of beautiful photos of floats in sea with candles, or the sky filled with floating lanterns, so I had I high hopes for some good photos. Unfortunately the local town where most of the festivities were was slightly less than picturesque, with extremely harsh fluorescent lights or no lights at all, and instead of a mass release, people drifted up over the course of several hours and individually pushed small floats out to sea. This is the best I managed:

@ISO 12,800. Just about usable if you take your glasses off and squint a bit....

Not quite like the pictures you see in the guide books....

So instead I tried photographing a local beauty contest that was going on nearby, and had a bit more luck.

The 60mm is not really an ideal lens to use for this, I found it plenty sharp enough, but very slow to focus in low light, and the focal length was quite awkward, some of these are quite heavily cropped. It really makes me want the 50-150....

Below is a 100% crop - the lens is actually picking up too much detail in the girl's skin and makeup!

Slow to focus - missed this one, unfortunately

And just to finish off, here are a couple of the sunset - these are pp'd, but the colours are genuinely true to life, the sunsets were some of the most amazing I've ever seen.

Difficult conditions and you  managed to take great pictures.

I admire that you used ISO 12800 - I never did it:)

Thank you!

I hardly ever use higher than ISO 3200, but the high ISOs are in the camera, I might as well get some use out of them

Re: NX60mm F2.8 on Koh Lanta (Thailand)

Of course sometimes as we can see on your picture it can be useful but problem is that such high ISO is not good for decent quality of the picture.

Maybe newer cameras in the future will have clear ISO 12800 who knows.
