Galaxy NX issues

My Galaxy NX was in the mail today and, after charging it up, I gave it a quick spin.
Unfortunately, I've run into several issues already.
1. Sometimes, it crashes while saving. This is rather frustrating, since I already lost a very nice series of exposures today. Is there anything that can be done to alleviate this? I already made sure to turn off Wifi and GPS, but to no avail.

2. In low light, I can see a red dot in the upper left corner of the display/viewfinder. It's not visible on any photos I take (including a test shot with a lens cap on). Is this a "feature" or do I have a faulty sensor?

3. I also had the camera app lock up while focusing (from that point forward, it was impossible to refocus). Is this very common or just bad luck on my part?

I really liked the prospect of switching over to the Samsung lineup of mirrorless cameras (the NX1 would've been my next toy, once prices had gotten down), but if those "smart cameras" are as frustrating as smart watches, I might have to rethink it.

EDIT: I just checked the screen again and it appears the camera also suffers from a total of four dead pixels (white dots that can already be seen on a light gray background).
Am I really just that unlucky, or is the quality of the Galaxy NX generally suspicious?

I would say that you are quite unlucky, as my galaxy NX is fine, with no such issues. I've used Samsung products for a long time and never yet come across a dead pixel - if I were you I would return this if it bothers you.
I haven't experienced the issue of files no saving either, and I always keep GPS, wifi, and mobile data on.
I have experienced an issue with a lens locking up, this is only when I use the 60mm for some reason, but is rectified by removing the lens and remounting.
All in all I would return it and get another one.

Did you buy new, used or a refurbished camera?

Yeah, this definitely sounds like a faulty camera.  Exchange or return it ASAP.

Re: Galaxy NX issues

Thanks.
I guess I'll return it next week then.
I just went to a Baseball game and had it lock up again (the small thumbnail icon keeps loading and loading).

Strangely enough, the dead pixels and even the red pixel on the sensor weren't visible throughout the game and even after I got home. It only started again 20 minutes after I got home (before that, the red pixel on the sensor wasn't visible even with the lens cap on).

Two more things:
1. For some reason, it sometimes fails to properly apply EXIF data to images. In that case, the small thumbnail icon in the lower left corner will turn into a yellow exclamation mark and the image itself will include a "Samsung Galaxy NX" signature, even though I disabled signatures. Did this happen to someone else before?
2. Comparing it to my buddy's Canon EOS 50D, I experience considerably more shutter lag. When I shoot a photo of the pitcher throwing a fastball, the 50D "records" the very moment I pressed the shutter button. Meanwhile on the Samsung, if I press the shutter while the ball is in midair, the photo shows it in the catcher's glove.
I somehow (perhaps naively) assumed the Samsung Galaxy NX was up to action photography. Was I wrong about that or is this, perhaps, due to yet another fault in my camera?

I haven't experienced the first problem you mentioned - I disabled signatures straightaway and they have yet to reappear on my images - thankfully!

However there is a small amount of shutter lag I must admit. Having said that Samsung list the amount of shutter lag to be 40 microseconds so only a little bit slower than a DSLR.
It is annoying but you can get around it by using burst mode.

Sorry I'm late to this thread - I just got this helpful tip from Samsung online tech - turn off your NX Galaxy camera, REMOVE the battery, now hold the power button down steadily for 10 seconds (your screen will blink on/off briefly) -  return the battery and restart your camera - this resets the basic EVERYTHING in our Galaxy's brain... mine was having minor issues and this set everything back to full function. NEVER have any hesitation to register your equipment on the Samsung site, and their online tech support will do everything possible to assist. Last resort - any hardware issues can be sent back to their nearest repair facility. I bought mine DOA from eBay for $75... sent it to Samsung for $50 and they sent me back a brand new camera .... works for me!

Re: Galaxy NX issues

Hi, i got Samsung Galaxy NX as birthday present from my sister. I like it but sadly I also got problem. the Electronic Viewfinder is (EVF) not working. When i peek on evf, the display indeed turn off but nothing happend in EVF. I read the manual it should automaticly turn on the EVF. I already check the display select at auto not main display. I also reset the camera third times already, but not solve the problem.
I also try your suggestion about hold power 10s without battery but no blink display and nothing happened at all

Is there any tips that can fix the problem before i take it to service center?

Re: Galaxy NX issues

sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing. I just got my NX in the mail from Ebay. It has been working flawlessly with one problem: I can not connect to cellular data. It's weird because I show maximum signal strength yet apps that use a data connection show a message that says, ' no internet connection'. I was wondering what kind of success you have had with the mobile data connection. I got a new sim card for it and added the camera to my AT&T plan. The wifi works fine, just no cellular connection.

Thank You

Try these two things:

1. Install the firmware again no both camera and lens. Update if necessary.

2. Format the sd-card. If that doesn't help, then change the sd card.

2. In low light, I can see a red dot in the upper left corner of the display/viewfinder. It's not visible on any photos I take (including a test shot with a lens cap on). Is this a "feature" or do I have a faulty sensor?

You should check the APN setting of the Galaxy NX, it's most likely outdated. Try the support forum of your provider, since the entries depend on the providers. I'm from Germany and don't have a Galaxy NX, but it's most likely the same issue I had with my old Galaxy Nexus, before it completely stopped working.
