I wish NX mini body similrar to NX30 body style (but smaller) and zoom 22-600 mm.

It could be great competition to FZ1000 or Canon G3X

Additional pros is the full adapter for NX lenses.

Then 85/F1,4 could be tele 220/F1,4.

For this body Samsung should create a power zoom- flat when not working.

You propose to change Samsung NX mini into Nikon 1 V4? I think that extending NX mini range would not be a wise move at the moment, as the NX mini managed to spark a very limited interest in the NX enthusiasts community (as could be seen e.g. in this forum).

NIkon 1 lacks such lens as 22-600 too.

FZ1000 becomes very popular but IMO better solution is seperate body and lens than all in one.

Sony offers RX10 with 24-200/constant F2,8,

Canon G3X with 24-600/F2,8-F5,6

Samsung offers ...nothing ...so NX mini variant 2 + megazoom lens could be very nice offer.

Look that we have no any nice megazoom lens for NX too.

18-200 is not wide enough and expensive (for movies lens)

For DSLRs people can buy Tamron 16-300(24-450) and 18-200 regular lens are much much cheaper than 18-200 for NX.

Thank you.

With current prices on NX mini, I think it worth to buy one, and then supplement with an NX-M adapter, so you can use your NX lenses on it. Will be a good telephoto solution which will fill the lack of Samsung tele lenses. For example 200mm becomes 540mm instead of 308mm on APS-C body. Right now Samsung is selling one with a kit lens for $250.

Re: weird, 'Stacked' CMos worse!

I am thrilled, absolutely thrilled, to hear of the NX Mini 2! Especially the red option.

At base ISO the "stacked" CMOS in the RX100 IV cannot produce black, only purple-blue. (Possibly this is a problem with Sony's JPEG engine, although Raw shows the same issue.)

The RX100 III has far superior image quality, even at highest ISO.

definitely worse than RX100 III, also NX mini beats all the competition. I compared with Nikon 1 J5, and Sony RX100 III and Canon G7 X. NX mini has a better quality.

Sony is always junk. I have an R100 and I never enjoyed it, because of awful and unintuitive UI. And they charge way too much for their junk. They don't even have a touchscreen on their RX models! Stone age!

The NX Mini shows better image quality because of the lens, I believe. DPreview is using the 17/1.8, which is excellent.

P.S. I wasn't aware that the 17/2.8 has OIS, until I saw it on B&H. Crop equivalent it is a 45.9mm lens, close to "normal" designation.

Yes, they are using 17mm, I checked their EXIF info. But on the other hand Sony has a Zeiss lens, which should be superior to Samsung.

It seems that they've done their homework.

I'm a Nikon 1-user, but when I was looking for cameras with 1"-sensor at a Dutch camera webshop, I noticed an entree for the Samsung NX Mini 2-camera with pre-order possibility. So I think it will be announced officially very soon...

A few things I noticed about the new camera:

  • stereo audio

+

  • 4K-video

+

  • sensor seems the same one as in the current NX Mini
  • super amoled display instead of lcd (resolution of new screen unknown)

+ current display is not very good at very bright sunlight even at brightest setting. NX500's super Amoled is much better in this respect.

  • retractable flash in body (indirect flash seems possible)

+ with current design built-in flash is blocked at the corner with 9-27 lens at 9mm. That's why they supplied external flash

  • external flash connector removed

- can't mount external flash and this also means that no EVF will be produced. Internal flash is rather weak (GN 4 vs 7 for external). Not sure what the new GN is though.

  • DirectLink-button disappeared. On/off-button gone to the back, next to new flash-button

- but probably done via touchscreen somewhere

  • D-pad now with scrollwheel (!)

+

  • 1820mAh-battery/400 shots (instead of 2330mAh/650 shots for NX Mini)

- current battery is really great, and it's shared with S4 zoom and NX3000

  • separate door for battery and connectors
  • metal rings on both sides for neck strap (instead of compactcamera style wrist strap provision)

I only see it one side

  • marking for sensor plane on top
  • more 'manly' styling...
  • and last but not least ... interchangeable front...

I only just realized that Samsung submitted the camera to the FCC, and that there are pictures and details and even a user manual! https://fccid.io/A3LEVNXF2

And the test device is serial number 165, so there must be 164 more of them!

Given that it's a DRIMe5, and mentioned in the NX500 build script, it's probably also a full fledged Linux system under the hood. So if there is any Samsung engineer reading this, send me a PM with how much you want for your pre production test device! 😁😁😁

geOrg,

FANTASTIC FIND!!!!

I remember reading some of the leaks about the new Mini and one was a higher resolution rear screen and the other was a faster processor. I like to shoot in HDR and the wait time between shots was pretty bad on the original Mini. Will check out the new Manual soon.

Love the Mini!!

Can't remember exactly when I bought my first - but it must have been latter - it had the most recent firmware. Then a few years latter, I picked up another NOS one cheap - because it had the one lens I didn't have - the wide angle pancake - it also had the earliest firmware. And that brings me to a question I hope someone here can answer:

I want to update the firmware on my second Mini. I see there are two updates after mine. I did a Samsung Support Chat - and after rephrasing my question five times (and being told to take it to Best Buy) - the answer was "just use the latest". But after looking at the file details, I don't think that is correct.

Firmware updates might be cumulative - the most recent one does everything that all the previous updates did. To be that, they would have to recognize the current installed version firmware and only apply the needed portions of the update. Or it could be that all the updates since the originally installed firmware need to be installed in sequence. I'm thinking it's the latter - since the file size of the most recent update is half the size of the previous update.

I don't want to brick the Mini - so would appreciate hearing from anyone whose updated their Mini.

THANKS!!

Pete

NX mini firmware update

I'm sure you got something wrong there, maybe a corrupted download. The latest NX mini firmware is 1.10, and it comes in a 56MB ZIP file with a 128MB bin inside. The previous firmware versions were all of similar size, only varying by a megabyte or two.

Re: NX mini firmware update

Hi geOrg,

I don't think so - check out the Samsung US Support page for the NX Mini:

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/?model=N0021023&modelCode=EV-NXF1ZZB1JUS

They list the original firmware as 01.10 (55.34 MB) followed by two updates (probably zipped files) 1.1.0.12 (5.92 MB) and 1.0.3.29 (2.02 MB).

The question is still - do I install them both in sequence, or just the most recent?

Re: First pictures of NX Mini 2

Just came across this post and say Hi!

I somehow acquired a NX Mini with 17mm F1.8 and due to this, im in NX Mini club once again. Except this time, I will buy another body with 9mm F3.5....so instead of changing lens, they both will become Samsung GR Mini and Samsunng GR1x Mini.

Wish me luck in acquiring a mini with 9mm lens soon.

Here in the UK, the 9mm is a lot easier to source and much cheaper than the 17mm. Well done for getting yours. I would love a 17mm for a reasonable price.

The first one is the update for the camera, the other two are the update installer software for Windows and Mac. I would not recommend using them - they normally would fetch the firmware from samsungimaging.com, which has been discontinued last year. Just extract the `DATANXmini.bin` to your microSD card and start the camera, then update from the settings menu.

I got three minis already, with 9mm lenses and 9-27 zooms, but one of the zooms is broken. I'm still looking for the 17mm, and even more so for the NX-M to NX adapter.

Sorry to hear about your loss on 9-27 OIS. I have used three copies of 9-27 and non survived to this date. Therefore, the only lenses that are reliable enough to keep are only 9mm F3.5 and 17mm F1.8 OIS.

The NX-NX-m adapter is so difficult to get to this day, but even if you have got one, putting a heavy lens + adapter on NX Mini will only make the system excessively front heavy render it very hard to handle with one hand only.
