There will be no more ef-m fast lenses. Only a kit lens upgrade and maybe a 18-135 4-6.3 or something like that.

I am not saying "NO" to any new fast prime lens.
Allthough desireable for many, many of the fast prime and especially fast zoom lenses will defy the concept of the M, being a small system kit.
In case one wants to be creative, you still have access to all Canon lenses that may please/suit personal needs via the adapter.

I would be more than happy to see some upgrades in the zoom area, provided the size and weight remains reasonable.
A dedicated long EF-M zoom (e.g. 70-400) would really make my day.

I vote for a super-flat 16mm or 18mm lens.

I vote for a super-flat 16mm or 18mm lens.

I tried to choose aperture values for the 15mm, 18mm, 30mm, and 50mm that should allow for a pancake design similar to the 22mm f2.

30mm f1.8 is too wide?

My first choice would be the 50mm f1.8, except I find the EF 50mm f1.8 w/ adapter already works really well on the EOS M/M3. Now with the even smaller EF 50mm STM lens, anyone who wants this lens should just go out and get this combo immediately. I know this is about native lenses, but for < $200 you're going to get a great lens and an adapter that will let you use a ton of other lenses.

12 Hour Tally

Here is the running total after 12 hours of voting.  The weighted total assigns 3 points to a 1st choice vote, 2 points for a 2nd choice vote, and 1 point for a 3rd choice vote.

Thanks for doing this. Fun.

One consistent interesting thing about the various "Which lens next?" threads is the wide diversity of people's preferences and desires. All over the map.

If I were Canon and noticed that diversity I would probably say "It's insane to try to meet all these demands, given the low volume of sales of this camera. Especially because the faster lenses will be big enough to look and handle like the EF and EF-S lenses in any case. So let's just make it as easy as possible for them to access those existing lenses (by lowering the adapter price to $50, for example) and, with the exception of the most mainline lenses, let it go at that."

IMHO that is where we are headed.

Of course the M3's mismatch with existing non-STM lenses doesn't help  or support this approach, so hopefully they will fix that issue.

Re: 12 Hour Tally

Many don't realise that only wide angle lens can be so small on a mirrorless camera. Maybe they'd give us somethin like a 14-15 mm fast-ish prime, maybe they won't. I think they won't.

Don't expect any telephoto fast lens for the system nor pro-grade zooms like 17-50 or 50-150 2.8

A slow pancake zoom is much more likely to happen.

While there are 13 lenses in the list, it is already pretty clear that some could be consolidated or eliminated.  The 18mm f2.8 and 70-300mm could probably be dropped.  While not thier first choice, the 15-80mm and 18-200mm users would probably be satisfied with the 18-135mm or 16-50mm.

That quickly gets you down to 9 lenses that captured over 90% of the votes.

Just curious, so I checked the adapter price on Amazon - white box is $33 (!).

I think that if you are willing to use the adapter, there is a good selection of lenses available right now.  Sure we might want native lenses, but there is no reason to not use the really great EF and EF-S lenses that are available right now.  That may be the most rational decision anyway because I think Canon could really produce a very attractive small DSLR sooner or later.  Will the SL2 be that camera, I don't know.  But, I would really like to see Canon produce a top quality tiny DSLR.  The one feature it must have is AF MA.

Well, except that all of my EF lenses perform worse on the M3 than they do on the M, and the M AF isn't exactly quick to start with.

Also, if more than 3/4 of my lenses need an adapter, the utility of the M system starts to look questionable.

Re: 12 Hour Tally

There are enough wide angle native lenses for the M3.

What I need are short telephoto lenses that are light weight.

It is not my experience that all EF lenses perform worse on the M3. I think the EF 50mm f1.8 and EF-S 55-250 perform at least as well, if not better on the M3.

Re: New EF-M Lens - FINAL TALLY

Final Vote Totals

Here is the final total of voting. The weighted total assigns 3 points to a 1st choice vote, 2 points for a 2nd choice vote, and 1 point for a 3rd choice vote.  80 people cast 1st choice votes, 57 cast a second choice, and 48 cast a third choice vote.

Out of curiosity, I took the votes from the three lowest ranking lenses and added them to the nearest equivalents.

Totals with Merged Results

This reduces it from thirteen new lenses down to ten and I am assuming it would have very little overall impact.  Things could probably be reduced even further with a little creativity.

For example, pull out the 50-150mm f2.8 and just build an EF-S version since that lens is needed too and the EF-M version wouldn't be much smaller.  With careful design, the 50mm f1.8 and 60mm macro could probably both be satisfied with a 55mm f2.0 IS macro.  Alternatively, the 85mm f1.8 could be tweaked a bit to do double duty as a macro lens.

These changes could bring the list down to eight new lenses.

With the current average of one new lens per year, everyone should have all of their needs met by 2023.

Some doubts
1

1. Prime lenses from 50mm and up on APS-C are not much smaller than full frame lenses with adaptor. Maybe it is more practical to use full frame lenses for those focal distances.

2. Prime lenses 40mm and below do not produce good bokeh even wide open. What is point in them? For low light? But zoom lenses are well stabilized and can be used in low light quite well.

I wanted prime lenses for M very much when I purchased my first M. But now I am not so sure that they make any sense.

3. Existing Zoom lenses cover all my needs when I need to zoom.

I did vote in your poll, but if you had option "I don't need more new lenses for M", I would vote for it.
