Sure, I've only been computing since 1976. I miss those 5.25" floppies.

Hey your guys are just youngsters. I remember my first 40 Megabyte drive. Cost me $500.00. In 1991 I was a project officer on a large database contract. The contractor needed my approval for large purchases. One item he needed my approval for was 10,000 US$ for a one gigabyte hard drive. At that time people were concerned about how we were going to handle terabytes of data.

I remember when I bought a external Jazz drive that used 1 gig cartridges. My god, it doesn't get any better than this I thought. My computer had a built in zip drive that could handle 100 meg cartridges.

I've got a stack of 10 x 100MB Zip disks "real cheap". Cobwebs included.

Loading/re-loading Windows via 10 X 3.5" floppies was "fun" too.

I agree, sort of. I think if you get a lot of value and usage out of a digital camera, then it's great. But for long term investments thinking my old digi-cam will be worth something someday, forget it.

Of course, an antique Sony would have doubled its price.

Don't think so. Nice try. If you have an old Agfa, maybe.

Uhg!

No need to say Ugh!. Digital cameras should be viewed as disposable and worthless immediately after purchase good only for capturing the images you need. Spare no expense on your lenses, but really I don't think most people (even some pros) need more than a rebel. I'm much more concerned about the lighting at this point. I did buy a 5DII when they came out, but it was because of the whole DSLR video film making craze it sparked. I just had to have it. My last rebel was the T2i. The T6s seems to have enough that's worth upgrading to.

What made you think that you needed a FF camera? For video?

when did you pay those prices?

the 300d Ska DrebeL was the first sub $1000 dslr with kit lens. I bought mine in 2004 for $900 and the grip was just $100. Card was $190. You either got ripped of or live in Canada or Europe.

Wise man once said never buy digital camera when it first comes out expensive wait until it's been around for a while or end of life new model. I have never deviated from that and it's worked for me

Sounds like a good idea if your goal is to save money.  You will save even more money by never updating your gear.  Personally I do a lot of photography and I appreciate the improved capabilities of the newest cameras.  Things such as improved image quality and improved autofocusing are important to me.

It does cost a lot more for camera gear up here sometimes. Regards.

Not quite what I meant really I don't see developments in recent years as hugely important nor advancements worthy of heavy cash outlays. If you're on a clock and money is time or a professional then of course I can understand that.

The camera industry is trying to buck the electronics trend maintaining high prices whilst other goods fall rapidly in costs. It never was sustainable and it's even less likely to work now that many people have "good cameras" there are relatively few big advancements in cameras unless you need massive resolution which many don't. AF has improved but it wasn't bad even 4-5 years ago.

Bottom line the rip off has to end and I talk with my wallet it stays shut. Next 4-5 years will show the camera makers how misguided they have become they're in for massive sales slumps

Eventually high prices and a very slow pace of innovation will come to an end.  The largely Japanese camera industry will face a challenge from China.  The process is in the early stages but give it 5 years.

If you will remember, Japan started by producing poor copies of existing products.  China is way ahead of that and has the world's most advanced, sophisticated manufacturing and an army of highly trained engineers and scientists.  They are already making lenses and simple cameras.  The rest will come soon, first with copies, then with better cameras than the Japanese can produce.
