That's good news. Was an UWA helpful - especially inside? What do you think about the picture quality of the 16-35/4L IS?

Hi dil, yes the 16-35/4L IS was very useful inside, especially in dimly lit smaller rooms in the Topkapi palace, inside Hagia Sophia museum and the pitch dark Basilica Cistern, a stunning ancient 1500 year old underground water reservoir https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_Cistern.

The picture quality of the 16-35/4L IS is very good for a UWA, a lot better in the corners than my earlier 16-35f/2.8L II. At 16-24mm the 16-35/4L IS even comes close to the excellent picture quality of the 24-70f/2.8L II.

All three lenses are really, really very good. After a week I used the 16-35/4L IS nearly only at 16mm or if IS was really essential to get a WA shot. Inside the Grand Bazaar's 5000 shops I used the 24-70f/2.8L II 99% of the time.

The 24-70f/2.8L II is very versatile, having it as my primary lens on my 6D and only changing when UWA (16mm) or a real tele (200mm) was really needed saved me a lot of lens changes.

Hope it helps

Yes a 24-70mm or a 24-105mm covers the most important classic FL's.

Also bringing a UWA zoom or a tele zoom is really not necessary to get most of the shots but I am glad I did bring all three lenses, especially the tele zoom.

Hellow dil! Sorry for my late reply.

First, I want to send a big Thank you! To all in this thread for guiding me to buy this lens. Having owned a 17-35/2.8L and a 16-35f/2.8L II I was skeptical, but this time Canon really nailed it.

Was an UWA helpful?

Yes absolutely! I used my new 16-35/4L IS a lot, both outside and inside. It was used a lot inside rather dim and large palaces, huge cathedrals and huge mosques. Also in- and outside the ship, dim rooms inside 2000 year old Roman villas in Herculaneum and countless other places.

Picture quality?

IS is very good and useful. IQ is very close to my spectacular 24-70 f2.8L IS II. This zoom rivals my now sold Leica lenses. I am very happy with my decision to buy 16-35/4L IS.

I used all my three lenses a lot. When leaving the ship with one lens I used the 24-70 f2.8L IS II. Carrying two lenses it mostly was 16-35/4L IS and 70-200f/4L IS. For som shore excursions I carried all three lenses and my 20D back up camera mounted with 70-200f/4L IS. My son always volunteered to carry this kit and took some good shots too.

Today I use 24-70 f2.8L IS II as my main lens and its used around 60-70% af the time. The other lenses are used when needing wider than 24mm and my tele gets to work when 70mm is to short.

All three are very sharp and have good contrast.
