Panasonic 14-140 f3.5 Upgrade?

Would it be worth going from the Panasonic 14-42mm kit lens to the 14-140mm f3.5 for $200 extra?

Re: Panasonic 14-140 f3.5 Upgrade?

That is a question you will have to answer for yourselve in the end.

But here is my opinion: I started with the olympus 2 lens kit, a 14-42 and a 40-150. I bought it to give me a nice reach and it gave me a nice reach. But I had the idea I missed too many pictures because I was swapping lenses. So I sold the 40-150 and bought the 14-150.

I prefer prime lenses but on family outings I mount the 14-150 and create memories.

So if you think you will buy a longer zoomlens to supplement your 14-42, yes in my opinion it is worth it to spend $200 more and get a superzoom.

Save your money for the 12-40mm f2.8 or 40-150mm f2.8 lenses.

If it is the 14-42 M1, simple answer, yes.

Otherwise, the answer would be mixed.

As some members' good opinion, 14-140 M2 offering the excellent convenience, IQ at least as good as the combo of 14-42 M2 or 14-45 & 45-150 or 45-175, but relatively lighter and smaller (1 lens vs 2 lenses combo). It would be justified to upgrade.

But if changing lenses would not be a burden but joy to you, and assume you already have that 45-150~175 coverage, that saving might invest in something else.

simply Yes

The 14-140 F3.5 is one lens for all and that make M4/3 camera small with that rang 10X  compared to other camera like APSC & SLR

good luck

The original Panasonic 14-42 is not as good as the newer version. You don't say which you are referring to. But either of those is in the $100 to $150 range, while the 14-140 f/3.5 is currently $499 at B&H. So first of all, if you can upgrade from the 14-42 to the 14-140 f/3.5 for only $200, that's a screaming good deal.

I had the 14-42 v.II and the 45-150, sold the latter when I got the 14-140, which is a very good superzoom and oh-so-convenient for outdoor travel use. I'm glad I got it. I've kept the 14-42 for occasional use indoors when I want a compact zoom with flash (parties, etc.). It's smaller and lighter than the 14-140, and there's no need for the 43-140 part of that lens indoors.

But if you want a wide-ranging zoom for outdoor use, I'd recommend the 14-140. Here are some examples I posted in another thread at 14, 40, and 140mm: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/55866549

If you shoot video you may want to know that the OIS is not good for video.
