Olympus OMD em5 mkii EVF problem. EVF blurred

Hey guys,

I can't seem to find any info on this problem maybe someone can shed some light on the subject.

I recently purchased an Olympus OMD em5 mk2 I've only had it a few months. I am currently travelling in India

Last night I was just casually taking some shots of the moon. All of a sudden something happened to the Electronic viewfinder. It has gone extremely blurry. The image is completely blurred. I can not even read the display text is completely blurred.

I have reset settings through the menu.
I have also reset settings through the hidden settings.
I am currently trying to not use it with the battery removed for 24 hrs.

I don't use the dioptic adjustment so I have tried that.
Nothing has worked so far.

I don't think I can upgrade the firmware because I don't have the installation CD with me.

Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

Also is it normal use for the camera to get quite hot when using it?

Please advise.
Wong

What you're not saying is whether the LCD display is also blurred.  If so, nothing wrong with the EVF, if not, something wrong with the EVF Optics.  Either the Diopter setting was accidently changed (most likely), or the EVF optical lenses has become dislodged somehow.

Ahh yes Roger excellent point.

The monitor display is perfectly fine. (I would prefer not to use this esp when travelling & also power consumption) but at the moment it's my only choice. It is only the EVF.

I have adjusted the diopter both ways several times both fast & incrementally & it does not make any difference.

I think it is something more sinister.

I did notice when I was trying to shoot things high in the air like a tall building the EVF would look blurred but I thought that it was just the angle, I was tilting my head at.

Perhaps something has dislodged. I think u might be right. Boo! It is literally a month old & I take extremely good care of my things.

Thanks for ur reply. Any other suggestions? Anybody?

So just to let anyone else know that might experience the same issue.

After a menu/settings reset & a hidden settings reset. (Problem still occurred);
However leaving the batt out & keeping it switched off for 24hrs seemed to rectify the issue.

I'm afraid it will prob happen again, but when I get back from travelling intend to take it to a service centre.

Thanks for those that responded.
I'm stil ion to suggestions especially if you are a tech geeks that knows their sh*t.

Cheers

Looks like I'm facing the same issue with EM5MkII which arrived today. Bought it used from someone. EVF looks blurred. Recovered a little bit once I reset the camera and turned off auto illumination.

I'm sorry to hear this.
I'm also kind of glad that I'm not the only one. I was suprised to see no other info when I googled it. Hopefully Olympus will become aware of the problem & sort it out under warranty.

Thanks for posting

I've just had the same issue with the MKi - did you find a solution? I HAVE updated the firmware but it does not fix the problem.

I had a similar problem with one of my E-M1.  I think it was a mechanical problem with the diopter adjustment; seemed like it came off the "rails".  At any rate, nothing to be done but send it in to Olympus to get it repaird.  It will cost you around $200.
