Importing RAW images into Photos?
2

I been using Apple's new photos software for a little bit now and just realized it's not giving me an option to import my RAW files from my Olympus EM-10. I shoot in RAW+JPEG and when I plug the camera in, it only gives me the option to import the Jpegs. Anyone know why, and what I need to do to get the RAW files imported instead?
Thanks ,
J

Set in preferences.

RAW are automatically imported along with JPEG.

You can open up the RAW file only.

When you shoot RAW + JPEG the Photos app stacks the two images together. The J means you have a stack with a JPEG file and a RAW file and the JPEG file is used as original. To change to the RAW file go into edit mode (enter) and choose Image - > Use Raw as original. The letter will now change to a R.

In my quick testing Photos did not see the raw if Photos was not set to copy images into the library. With that set it imported the pair and defaulted to using the raw as the original.

Interesting. My imports default to JPEG. I don't see a preference that would allow a choice.

Maybe it inherits the preference from the Aperture library it was based on (as Aperture had such a preference which in my case was set to raw). Let's leave that question as an exercise to the reader.
