T6s / T6i vs Compact Panasonic LX 100

I currently have a Canon 450D and a Panasonic LX3.

I would like a new camera for the kids and have narrowed it down to either the new Canon 750D or Panasonic LX100.

I like the compact Panasonic LX100 but wonder how it's pictures compare to the Canon 750D.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Picture quality won't be an issue with either camera. In fact darn near any current M4/3 or DSLR on the market will easily deliver the IQ sufficient for prints up to SuperB or beyond. If image quality ever presents a problem, then look at upgrading your (indoor) lighting. IMHO it will make a much greater difference than changing cameras.

Now the factors that will likely make a biggest difference in your picture taking are how well the autofocus works, the ease of shooting, the portability of the camera, the versatility of the system. You'll have to decide which of these mean more to you, as there will always be trade-offs. Look long and hard at how you currently take pictures, and see what's holding you back. Things will likely clear up a lot.

Good luck to you,

Two good options. LX100 can certainly bang out a lot of frames of a modest size, has a nice fast lens and convenient overall package. Some questions I'd ask might be: might you ever want a longer or wider lens? (eg for outdoor sports, or maybe a dedicated portrait lens?). Which has faster overall operation? (how much viewfinder lag on the LX100. No touchscreen on X100 means AF point selection a trickier proposition). Both will give good enough image quality but the larger sensor will be a tiny bit better. Size. Is the size difference enough to mean you're more likely to have the LX100 with you? Addictive personality? Do you have any addicitve personality tendencies? If so go for the premium compact, otherwise if you buy a DSLR you'll be doomed to years of buying more lenses and accessories, them deciding another system is better, selling all of it, starting all over buying Sony (or whatever) lenses.. then deciding they're no longer the best.... and so on and so on...
