Does G11 support SDHC / UHS-I ?

According to the User Guide, PowerShot G11 supports SD and SDHC cards (and MM ones). Is it a problem if it is an SDHC/UHS-I card? Maybe UHS-I was not around the time the guide was written so there is no further discussion on sub-types of SDHC.

My guess is "SDHC is SDHC, whether UHS-I or not", so I would think UHS-I is okay.

Can someone affirm this?

Re: Does G11 support SDHC / UHS-I ?

I think it might be worth asking Canon this, unless someone has one of those cards to test in the G11?

Re: Does G11 support SDHC / UHS-I ?

People having a G11 and also a newer camera with SD card might have tried whether a newer SDHC card can be shared with the newer camera and the G11. Well, it was worth the try to ask.

RANT MODE on

I once registered at a British Peugeot site in order to ask the question whether the seats of the third row for 307SW could be used with 308SW. (The P* service told the seats had different part numbers but it was not compelling. So I went to the forum.) There was no reply. I registered then at a French Peugeot site in order to put the same question (but, hélas, in French) and soon a friendly reply was posted wiith the negative answer (no, it was not possible to use the seats for the old model with the newer one.) Someone had both the 307SW and the 308SW and also a third row seat for the 307SW and was so kind as to measure it.

Re: Does G11 support SDHC / UHS-I ?

According to the FAQ on Canon Hungary's site, these cards are supported by G11:

SD (max. 2 GB)

SDHC (4 GB – 32 GB)

here

UHS-1 is not marked for G11 as supported. Whether a backward compatibility is there I do not know. A device not supporting USB-2 but only USB-1 can use an USB-2 device but only in the USB-1 mode. Maybe the situation is similar with SDHC / SDHC UHS-1.

Yes and no

The G11 supports SDHC (fat32) cards as well as the smaller original SD cards.

UHS-1 is a transfer protocol (technically there are 2 different UHS-1 speed classes) it has pretty much nothing to do with card size or format.

You can use a UHS-1 card in a camera that doesn't natively support it--like the G11 and it'll just work at the lower clock rate of vanilla SDHC.

Re: Yes and no

Thanks for the follow-up: it was my conjecture.
