Vewing Nx1 Srw images in windows explorer

I just bought the NX1 and noticed the srw won't open in windows. The files from the NX20 would open since I installed the MS Windows Camera Codec Pack, but not the NX1 files.

Is there a solution for this?

thanks!

That's too bad but the NX1 has not been given a lot of respect by more then a few of the OS and software sources.  It's a relatively new breed of camera (new raw code) and I expect it will be late 2015 before more acceptance is seen by Microsoft and Adobe and others.  Regardless, it's a good camera (not perfect), that takes great pics and vids in 28mp and 4k.  Even if the power that be don't realize it, screw em.  The windows NX1 srw viewer will come sooner or later.

Use either Irfanview or Faststone.

http://www.irfanview.com/

http://faststone.org/

Both are lightweight, have editing functions and let you browse the files quickly to sort them before chucking the decent shots into DNG Converter

I'm pretty sure windows decodes raw (and does it pretty good) while fastsone (and most likely irfanview) just extract embedded jpg from SRW file. In fastsone to see the raw you need to open image and press 'A'. Then is not so fast anymore.

My windows doesn't. I just told the OS to open SRW with faststone. But to view in explorer (as per the OP) it doesn't work. So technically I probably shouldn't have said anything, to be honest. lol

Thanks for the tips

It's really annoying and also had to install separate player for the movies but I knew that before I bought it

Also PhotoShop elements won't open the files and dxo optics doesn't have a module yet 😑
I don't feel it will be an efficient work flow.haven't try dng converter yet....

Thanks

My windows doesn't.

Mine too, I was refering to my experience with NX20/NX300 files under windows 7 and NX30 unde4r windows 8 (windowes 7 doesn't read NX30 fiels but windows 8 does).

I just told the OS to open SRW with faststone.

It's a good advice, I just added that faststone doesn't actually open raw but emnbedded jpg, unless you specifically press a on every image you open.

I view this as am issue that Samsung should be pressing Microsoft to resolve, not the other way around. I doubt Microsoft looks to CaNikon for their RAW compatibility as it probably is nowhere close to top priority updates for Windows. Just my theory

What issue? There is no issue. Just because Microsoft rather recently added support for opening a subset of raw files doesn't make it a problem that NX1 raws aren't part of that subset. It's not like they're blocking other programs from opening them.

If there was no issue, this thread would not exist my friend.

It's slightly comparable to lightroom lacking lens profiles for NX. While not a big issue, nonetheless an issue that can and should be addressed especially when other camera brands seem to get favorable treatment.

Hi sorry to bring this old thread up.

I've been trying to make the .SRW from NX1 work on my PC just like the raw files from NX300.

Does anyone else have a Windows 10 computer and can view NX1 .SRW raw files directly from the windows explorer folders?

Only way I can see the Raw files is by installing the "fastpictureviewer" codec pack. I have installed the trial pack and it works fine. But was wondering if there is a more straightforward windows codec pack available or if this 3rd party codec is my only solution. Thanks.

Windows 10 File Explorer cant view the SRW files. Will need to use photo software to view thumbnails and the photos. Infranview, etc.

Yes you can! Just install https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/raw-image-extension/9nctdw2w1bh8?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
Good luck (if your camera is still working after all these years anyway)!
