Ah that's brilliant to know! That is quite hidden/a little daft then
Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated I love this forum <3
The frame rate selection is somewhat odd and not properly documented. I have tried to compile some information on this in a previous post and its follow-up.
I have also inquired Samsung about my questions, but they were not able to answer most of them. I hope a new firmware update will clear this up.
What are you talking about, they're perfectly documented in the manual. Of course that means reading the manual, which many seem to ignore.
Dear Straw Man,
Maybe I wasn't precise enough with my statement. Before I inquired Samsung Germany, I thoroughly searched the manual to answer my questions, but I couldn't find any answers. When contacting Samsung Germany, they couldn't answer them either (the only response I got was that they would forward my questions to the development and research department, whose answer I haven't yet received).
These are the questions that I directed to Samsung:
1) Which real recording frame rates are used with the following settings:
a) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 23.98P 1920x1080 (23.98p), Fast / Slow Movie: x1 (23.98p);
b) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 24P 1920x1080 (24p), Fast / Slow Movie: x1 (24p);
c) Video Out: PAL, Movie Size: FHD 24P 1920x1080 (24p), Fast / Slow Movie: x1 (24p);
d) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 30P 1920x1080 (30p), Fast / Slow Movie: x1 (30p);
e) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 30P 1920x1080 (30p), Fast / Slow Movie: x0.5 (60p);
f) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 30P 1920x1080 (30p), Fast / Slow Movie: x0.25 (120p);
g) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 60P 1920x1080 (60p), Fast / Slow Movie: x1 (60p);
h) Video Out: NTSC, Movie Size: FHD 60P 1920x1080 (60p), Fast / Slow Movie: x0.5 (120p).
Helpful is only a statement with a precision of at least 3 digits after the comma, because these digits are important for synchronization (e.g. with an audio track).
2) Can you confirm that using the setting "FHD 23.98P 1920x1080 (23.98p)" will cause a frame rate of 23.981 fps (and not 23.980 or 23.976 fps) being stored in the file headers.
Is this a firmware bug?
3) Can you confirm that using the setting "Movie Size: FHD 30P 1920x1080 (30p)" will cause different frame rates stored in the file headers depending on the setting of the "slow movie" function, i.e. sometimes 29.970 fps and sometimes 30.000 fps? (refer to previously mentioned cases 1d, 1e, 1f)
If yes, why?
4) Can you confirm that using the setting "Movie Size: FHD 60P 1920x1080 (60p)" will cause different frame rates stored in the file headers depending on the setting of the "slow movie" function, i.e. sometimes 59.940 fps and sometimes 60.000 fps? (refer to previously mentioned cases 1g and 1h)
If yes, why?
(translated from German)
I did not find any section in the manual which would answer these questions or give any indication about the exact frame rates being used.
Best Regards,
Jan Behrens
