The oldest active postal box in Taiwan, installed during the Japanese occupation period before World War II, Pingxi station

Japanese bomb shelter used as protection against US attacks, dug into solid rock next to the coal mines, Pingxi station

Cai ancestral family residence, a local magnate's estate built after the war after the Republic of China moved to Taiwan, Lingjiao station

Stray cat in an abandoned house, Lingjiao station

Lingjiao waterfall, the second largest in the Pingxi district, much less visited with derelict buildings nearby, Lingjiao station

The Pingxi line train, built to ship out coal from Jingtong during the Black Gold Era starting in 1919, pulls into Lingjiao's curved platform, Lingjiao station

Shifen waterfall, the largest in Taiwan, formerly called "Rainbow pool" owing to the rainbows commonly seen from the rising mist, Shifen station

Nice pictures, especially the waterfalls! Did you climb the hills near pingxi? I was there last year, and I have some photos I will one day get around to processing ... amazing scenery in that area!

Nope, I didn't get a chance to hike up the crags, it was rather hot already and I'm not a fan of the bugs, plus the rain was off and on through the weekend.
