24-105 STM focus shift

Hi,

I've been using the STM version of the 24-105 for a while now. Stopped down a bit it is able to keep up with the L (which I own also) quite well. Focus and zoom are smoother than with the L which makes it better for video. Focus and IS are near silent.

But there is one very annoying thing : focus shift backwards when stopping down. Focus is dead on wide open, but stopped down focus shift backwards by an extend that subject becomes OOF.

I have now MFA'd both my 6D and 70D to work best around f8 (24-105 STM only off course). It only means that wide open there will always be some front focus.

Is focus shift common for this lens, or do you think there is something wrong ?

Regards, Sandor.

I think you are the only one with the lens so far. I've been interested in it for APS-C where its FF foibles would be eliminated or at least mitigated Considerably.
