I am no pixel peeper, but the detail and sharpness at 1:1 is remarkable.

No doubt. But just as impressive is the color rendition and contrast. It's hard not to be surprised by just how good this lens is when viewing your first set of pics.

Re: Panasonic AF 12-35/2.8 G worth it?

This is the lens that gets used for about 70% of my photography. When I want to go light I carry just one camera with this lens. So if it cost me more than my other lenses, the cost was justified.

I find this a splendid lens, terrific quality,up there with my old favourite the Nikon 35-70 2.8 that introduced me to zoom lenses.

Seeing that it takes the place of a range of prime lenses, it probably cost me less in the end for the same firepower.

I took all these shots on a recent hike with my EM5 and 12-35 2.8

I also like the way the Lumix 2.8/ zooms are much smaller than their Olympus brethren.

Good suggestion to use Japanese retailer on ebay, much cheaper the brick and mortars in Sweden! Thanks.

No problem. When you look at your first set of pics from the 12-35 you'll know it money well spent

I hope so, because mine was delivered 2 days ago I have only done a few test shots so far, but the quality of the images is excellent. I am no pixel peeper, but the detail and sharpness at 1:1 is remarkable.

In fact, I'e just been comparing it with images taken with a Sigma 17-70mm on a Canon 600D, which is a reasonable consumer grade kit, and there is simply no comparison.   I had been reasonable happy with the Sigma....

I'm seriously looking for a HQ lens for my GH3 as well. I've basically settled on the Pan 12-35 and it would complete the water resistance factor for my site photos. The Olympus 12-40 would also work, but I've been told that the water resistance feature only works with lens and camera from the same manufacturer. Is this true?

I don't believe that is true. The "water resistance" is in the gaskets of the lens (and for zooms, that includes the gaskets for barrel extensions), and those gaskets should work identically on any standard m43 mount.

To quote Roger Cicala:

Weather resistant – A term that consumers falsely define as "weather proof" and camera companies accurately define as "the warranty doesn't cover water damage."

and

As long as we're on the subject of catchwords, it's probably worth tackling 'Weather Sealed' or 'Weather Resistant' next. Many people seem to believe that means 'waterproof'. When you take lenses apart all day you find out it usually means 'we put a strip of foam rubber behind the front and rear elements and scotch tape over the access holes under the rubber rings'.

I waited quite awhile before i bought mine.  I have the 14-45, but the 12-35 offered the wider end that i tend to use quite a bit on walkabouts...  The extra speed doesn't hurt too.
