Re: Yet another "Canon S120 or G16" thread :-)

Well, so I got my new G16.

Unfortunately, there is a little "thread" (?) inside the lense :

Should I return it ? (it comes from Amazon, and I have 1 month to decide)

I cannot see it on images (yet).

Otherwise, it seems to be a good camera.

Re: Yet another "Canon S120 or G16" thread :-)

I've done some tests and found out that even with 15 seconds exposure (shooting in a dark room) at 100 or 3200 ISO (wide and tele), I have zero hot pixels.

Is it normal nowadays or am I lucky ?

So I hesitate about sending back the G16, especially that I don't see artifacts created by the tiny piece of lint (seems to be that) : maybe the replacement might not have a "perfect sensor" ....

That looks like a baby maggot. You didn't leave any ripe cantaloupe near your lens, did you?

Funny ......

No, it came like that right out of the box.

by the way, it's not uncommon : http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2986206

Re: Yet another "Canon S120 or G16" thread :-)

While I'm still in the return period for the G16, I've ordered a G7X and got it yesterday.

First impressions :

* Smaller & lighter than the G16 (but bigger than a S95)

* Great photos; couldn't notice "softness" at wide, corners aren't blurry.

* Fast AF. (not sure if the G16 is faster or not - it's very tight)

* Lowlight is very good. (G16 is also quite capable here - I didn't test very much , but logically the G7X should perform even better) Stabilization is excellent. No problems to take shots with 1/4 sec and ISO 250 - if nothing's moving. (the G16 does this too)

* Video is SILENT, I mean NO HISSING AT ALL. (well, maybe a slight humming, in a totally silent room) Sound recorded is OK. Video image quality is good.

* 24mm wide. That might take a bit time to "learn". (my old SD700 is 35 mm, and the G16 28)

* "only" 100 mm at tele - more than the Sony RX100III, but less than my previous cameras (both SD700 and G16 have 140 mm).

* Macro is a bit tricky to achieve. I guess you can't have everything, and very small sensors (like on the SD700) were better at this. But I could get some good test-shots. Macro works better if the photographed thing is "flat". (FYI : macro on the G16 is better but not as good as on the SD700)

Well, that's all for now.

Not sure yet. Maybe I'll return the G16 or keep it as back-up.

Return the g16. That thing should have never left the factory. Where did you buy g7x?

Amazon.de (German Amazon Website) : 500 EUR (yeah I know, but it's still less than the "normal" price in France)

Things are more pricy here (in France)...  uhmm, wait a sec , it's $650 at Amazon.com ?
