My eyes and experience are still maturing, so apologies if this is a dumb question. Also this probably isn't the best comparison to use even if it's from the same site (Don't worry, I've looked at plenty of other sources as well).

I just feel like for all the hype surrounding the NX1, there's not that huge of an improvement. The noise grain is finer, there's less color noise (although the NX1 images are also less saturated), and the NX1 is doing this at double the pixel count.

But I know plenty of unbiased professionals have praised the NX1's sensor. Is it just me or is the improvement more evolutionary than revolutionary for ~ 4 years time?

Side note, I really want to jump on the NX1 while it's on sale...but video would be my main use. I'm assuming h.265 support will not come for awhile and trasncoding is a pain. Any certainty on if a future firmware update will enable h.264 recording or long it might be until the price drops further?

It's a bit of a shame to see where the camera industry as a whole is going...few other electronics categories have created an expectation of 10-50% off within a year or even months of product release.

I have NX10, NX100, NX20, NX300 and NX1. NX10 image sensor is same one in Pentax K20D which is released in Jan 2008.

Between NX10 and NX1, IMO, I believe that NX1 got at least 3-4 stops improved from NX10 for high ISO performance wise.

One of big issues of NX10 JPG processing in high ISO is loosing color.

About H.265 codec, Windows 10 will support H.265 codec in OS level. I guess video editing tool will suport H.265 codec soon.

I rarely took the NX11 above ISO2000, the NX20 ISO4000 was the limit, the NX1 I'll go to ISO8000.
The Pictures are a few years apart in different locations, And the exposures are different but I traded my NX11 a reduced cost on my NX20.

It is indeed evolutionary, but I'd like that 16-50 f2.0-2.8 lens and that would be better on the NX1, rather than my NX20 or NX200.

I am using Rocky Mountain video converter and converting h265 to Prores files. It takes time, but Davinci Resolve lite runs much better with the files transcoded. I bought a high power PC this winter and it still struggles with h264 files from my Canon 5d Mk2. Editing programs will let you skim footage and preview your edit much smoother with a transcoded file. Not great for someone who has hours of footage or needs quick turn-around though...
