Who is happy with your new M3?
3

Growing complaint on this forum, I want see if there anyone here really happy with your new M3.  I got white M3, and I really happy with it.  This is not a perfect camera and I am not here to say there's no issue.  Yes, there's issue but these are something I can definitely live with.

I love my new camera and I can't wait to take it to my next vacation with me.

Please upload your M3 pictures here.

Happy shooting.

I had fun with my M3 over the weekend. I got into a pillow fight (the grip was helpful here):

I played around with the remote shooting:

I packed my M3 back up in the box and will put it away until there is a firmware update.

I am glad the M3 is working so well for you. For a lot of the pictures I usually take, my original M is currently working better.

Sorry, can't post any pictures from a camera sitting in a box.

I have no desire to use an inferior piece of equipment just because it is newer.

Hopefully new firmware will fix it, but in the meantime I will stick with what actually works for me.

Jury is still out for me. Most of the gripes I have so far are varying degrees of usability issues discovered through ad-hoc testing. Some I'll learn to live with, and others I hope will be fixed by Canon. I finally had a chance to get out of the house and field test the M3's image quality yesterday. Here's a few from that set...

Image wise, the main difference I'm seeing is that auto white balance doesn't seem to be as accurate as the M (and shifts quite a bit for multiple photos of the same scene), and colors needing a bit more 'boost' than I'm accustomed to in post. All images shot in RAW and converted to 16bit TIFFs with DPP 4.2.10.0, noise reduction and sharpening zero'd out. Processing done in Lightroom 4.4, to my taste.

悪いキヤノン。悪い悪いキヤノン。悪いキヤノンは不幸なデザインコンペティションお客様です。

Just a little message there for Canon.

Fed "Bad Canon, bad bad Canon. Bad Canon is making customers unhappy" into Bing translator. Just retranslated the result back into English and get:

"Bad Canon. Bad bad Canon. Bad Canon is your unfortunate design competition" , which is actually an improvement on my original comment.

Despite couple upsetting moments, like no focus with my Tamron 150-600, I really like this camera and will keep it for sure. I believe all these small bugs can be fixed by new firmware.

I really enjoy the physical camera.

I'm not loving the lack of options in the menu and the AF doesn't seem 6X as fast to me.

For 500 dollars yeah I'm happy.

At least they priced it reasonable. If it was 1,000 I'd be unhappy with the camera.

Yep. I'm happy. Very happy actually. I guess I am a pretty vanilla shooter so many of the issues are things I'd not normally see in 99% of my shooting. I primarily use P mode and Av mode. M on rare occasions.  Things I like:

-  resolution is amazing

- EVF is very handy. More so than I had hoped.

- speed for me is quick. On continuous shutter mode it fires much more quickly than the M.

-  I like the grip. It's very handy. (Pun intended)

-  interface is different, I will give that. It'll take some getting used to.

More re to learn over the coming weeks!

I think the most people who visit this form knows how unhappy you are with M3.  I believe you have expressed yourself clearly on many different topics here.  This is just for few of us who enjoy with our new toy.

I Paid $600 for this toy and I think it's good enough for the money and at least for me it's clear upgrade from M1.

Of course, I am keeping my M1 with different lens.  I am getting 18-55mm tomorrow.  2 perfect cameras for me to take a vacation this summer.

I can't wait.

AWB in bright, blue sky sunshine is a bit warm. Experimenting with other modes at the moment, including using a WB offset which works fine with a shift towards blue. Not a big deal.

The M3 is quicker handling than the M with faster AF. It seems to lock on lower contrast than the M and the EVF and focus peaking make MF useable.

So far, I've only tried the 11-22, 55-200 and 22 M natives.  I was able to get 100% focus locks on a sleeping yellow Labrador retriever lit by an incandescent lamp. The M struggled with that environment, and it is wonderful to have a pop up flash to fill in that sort of context as well .

The camera is a keeper.

I've seen plenty of negatives posted in just the last three days so I've had a growing sense of dread, knowing that I've placed a deposit on the M3 but knowing that there are some legitimate gripes with this camera. I think a Firmware upgrade is extremely likely although in the past Canon have tended to wait around 6+ weeks after a camera's release before producing the Firmware upgrades.
.
Picture Quality would be the only serious deal-killer for me. And right now people are showing some very nice samples coming from this camera. The image quality on recent uploads here looks excellent.

I took delivery of two cameras on Thursday, one of them just hours before I departed on a short 3 day photo trip. The two cameras are on opposites ends of the spectrum of types (I would be interested in). So, I was learning and discovering on the fly, something I normally do not do but the convergence was uncontrollable.

The other camera got 99% of my attention on this trip but I managed to get a few snapshots in with the M3 on a overcast day. No tripod/monopod shooting.

Main road inside Carlsbad Caverns National Park

This is the first time since 2005 I have used or processed anything other than FF. Is this over-sharpened? I am discombobulated.

I am generally happy with the camera although it has more the feel of using an iphone than a DSLR unless using the EVF, but it is not as compact with the EVF attached as I would have hoped. With the EVF, it seems almost as deep as my 6D.

Returning to Japan is a pain and I would only get 50% of my money back.  Putting the M3 on ebay would probably be a net loss of $100 once all of the fees are accounted for.

If a firmware update fixes a lot of the problems, this camera could end up better than my M.  I don't have a ton of money invested in the M3 and my M still works fine.  I am just going to pack my M3 away until there is a substantial firmware update and make a final decision then.  Hanging onto the camera for a few months and possibly reselling later isn't going to cost me a lot.

My wife is still not happy with her white M3. Too much troubles for her with detachable EFV, popup flash, changeable lenses, etc. Gotta buy her ELPH. If you are interested, M3 is on For Sale forum.

well it's going to come with mine and it will certainly get a workout - one black M3 and also one white M3 IR modified.

it's being dismantled and put under the knife by Kolari Vision as we speak

I can live with most of the issues - photographers should be able to work in the limits of the camera, this is no different.

That all being said, some of the features are really nice - the tilting screen and tilting EVF (btw, i'd never purchase a built in EVF after being able to nicely tilt the EVF), and the display settings that you can change are really handy. the EC dial and live histogram will be quite handy for ETTR'ing.

the output is wonderful - especially with the EF-M lenses. we have sharp lenses basically corner to corner at 24Mp crop from 11mm to 200mm.

no one else can do that - without spending a fortune.

at least you're prepared for it

it's going to be a while i would assume unless canon knew it going into the release, and was already working on it.
