Looks nice. But some sort of sharpening seems to be applied. Right?

Also, you need to clean your 1Dx sensor.

Thanks for sharing!

Micloi, you previously shot some comparison tests with the Tamron, Sigma S, and 300 PF, any chance you could shoot those same targets with the Sigma C? Because of course what everyone wants to know is whether it is as good or better than the Tamron, even if it is clearly pretty good.

There are some dust spots on the sensor. And it looks like some sort of sharpening has been applied. Maybe the default sharpening of the RAW converter? I could be wrong but it does not look completely unsharpened to me.

Re: 1Dx and Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary

I want to like the Sigma lens but am confused by the claim of no sharpening or noise reduction in the samples when detailed EXIF appears to show otherwise.

Happy to receive some education on the data.

Re: 1Dx and Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary

The file was opened in Adobe camera raw, levels adjusted and saved, no sharpness or noise reduction was applied except the default settings of the raw converter.

And yes the sensor will be cleaned this week, just acquired the camera yesterday.

Re: 1Dx and Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary

Even though I do not know anyone that does that, to keep everyone happy, I reloaded the raw file and turned even the default (minimal) noise reduction and sharpness in adobe camera raw to 0.

This is the resulting file, IMHO there is a slight difference but nothing too obvious even on my 27 inch monitor.

Do not have the sport or the Tamron anymore. I have the 300mm pf but the contemporary is Canon fit so a comparison between 2 different cameras would not really be too helpful.

Thanks for going to the trouble.  Minimal but perceptible differences.

The lens looks like a keeper.

Anxious to see more samples.

Re: 1Dx and Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary

It looks like we will have to wait for more in depth samples from the Sigma C lens, as it is still early on the market. This link, https://photographylife.com/reviews/tamron-150-600mm-f5-6-3, to me, are some of the best shots I have seen in a review of the Tamron 150-600. Unless the Sigma C can produce images like these, I will have to go with the Tamron. I have until late May, early June before I will need the lens, so hopefully by then there will be enough sampling to make my decision. Right now, its the Tamron, the Sigma C has a couple of months to change my mind.

Thanks! I was just wondering. I have the sharpness slider on zero by default in ACR and sharpen in PS using smart sharpen.

How is the AF speed and accuracy? I do feel the Tamron 150-600 is sharp enough for me but the AF is a bit inaccurate at times. It's fine for stationary/slow targets but for fast birds in flight you get a lot of slight focus misses for every in focus shot.

If the Sigma C has as good AF as the Sigma S seems to have I might just have to buy one.

Difficult to compare without having both lenses side to side I am afraid but I can just say that I find the AF of the C version fast and accurate.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post these. It's good that you posted the unsharpened example, because "default" settings vary. I, for one, have NO RAW sharpening applied--all sliders are set to zero--in ACR, and there is an appreciable difference between the sharpened and unsharpened examples you provided.

Little Hummer

Handheld jpg straight from the camera; not sure if this will be full size or not in the forum.  I'm pretty happy with the lens: quiet focus and image stabilization.  My neck, however, is not...  ouch.

Re: 1Dx and Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary

I think those images are sellers for the C ...

I have seen this good or even better quality images from the C, but also i saw very bad ones too and makes me wonder: Apart from the ones that heat haze is obvious, in the case of the rest of bad images i wasn't able to say for sure if it looks as a back or front focus issue, so what could it be? Calibration issue with specific bodies / copies?

For example here

http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2015/03/30/sigma-150-600mm-contemporary-lens-review

the 7D images are ok but the 1D images are disappointing. They have this common spoiler in all the bad images i have seen from C : appear to be in focus but are wrapped in a hazy glow as if an effects filter is used or some sort of softening cloth is placed in front of the lens
