Excellent portrait lens on crop sensor, great choice for first prime.

I have this lens since almost a year now and I'm still in love with. It's one of my best lenses (just after the 200L) in terms of image quality and color rendition.

I took great (considering my amateur skills shots with it of my daughter and wife, with very pleasant bokeh. If you like to shot with available light as I do, with his f/1.8 it ofrees very good low light capabilities.

In open spaces or large rooms it is simply perfect. It might be too tight in smaller rooms, when using a crop sensor as I am.

I fully recommend it: for the price it costs (much cheaper then any L lens), it is IMHO very comparable to the quality you can get from the luxury series.

For a non-pro like me, it wouldn't be a reasonable investment to upgrade to the f/1.2. Also because DOF at 1.2 should be quite challenging to be used handheld with a moving toddler...
