CAF dilemma

I know many people does not find useful CAF, especially when portraiting, but i am used to it.

Thing is i nothiced that my NX1100 does not CAF if the shutter button is not half pressed.

On my old lady (Sony a200) when i switch on CAF it works constantly, no matter if shutter button is half pressed or no.

I dig the menu but did not find nothing.

Is there a way to change this behaviour?

New models works the same?

Re: CAF dilemma

To be honest I would have thought that continually autofocussing - even when no button is depressed on the camera would have been a bug in the firmware. It must consume the battery very quickly.

I have an NX1100 and NX3000 and the behaviour of CAF is as you describe; you need to half depress the shutter button to activate it.

I don't use or see much benefit of CAF on either of these cameras as it is not quick enough to be of value. I prefer the predictability of SAF.

On my Pentax DSLRs I like to assign the AF activation to another button with CAF and the shutter button to not activate AF in anyway. This gives very precise control of when and when not to apply AF. I do wish I could assign CAF to the custom button on my NX cameras (I'm sure that could be done in Firmware), but I think even on the NX1 the AF on Shutter button can't be switched off which makes assigning it to a custom button a bit pointless.

I can see why not many people would want the feature you want - give the impact on battery life.

Turn on face detection. I don't remember if this helps with NX1000 anymore, but it does with NX300 and NX30.

Re: CAF dilemma

As aRbuz sayd, in FD mode it works without button pressing, so it is not so strage...

Battery is not an issue, my shooting session lasts abouit 15 minutes, i will describe you the scenario:

Subject is a kitten (on a table with backdrop or similar situation), usually under 3 months of age, target is get a good shot on about 100-200. I take shots in group of 3-4 burst when the kitten is in an inspliring expression (my wife uses a teaser to catalize the right expression). I use CAF because this way the moving subject is always in focus. The session will last no more than 15 minutes because it is hard to get the kitten attention for more than that time.

Actually i am using the Sony for this job and as far as i know many dslr CAF the way i want. I would like to switch to NX for this task because actually i like better my result with that.

Any idea or suggestion?
