Best kit lens I ever had!
1

When I owned a Canon 7D, the kit lens was an 18-135. I could never fault it.  Wanting something lighter when I retired I sold on the camera and lens. Several mistakes later, I've now bought a Canon 700D with the 18-135 IS STM lens. I've used it on walks, low light, action shots of grandchildren, portraits and so on.  It's every bit as good as I had hoped. It's sharp, responsive and doesn't weigh a ton. I've no plans to buy any other lenses because I don't think I'll need them.

Re: Best kit lens I ever had! I paid $$$ to avoid the kit lenses.

I've only owned 1 Canon lens before, the EF-S 15-85mm.  I paid $700 more than the kit lens and $300+ more over the Sigma 17-70 just to get an extra few mm on the wide end.  Without question this was the best investment I have ever made (photography wise).  Now that I'm coming back to Canon I am planning on picking this lens back up.  From my own testing there isn't a EF-S zoom lens as good optically.  IMO I think it's even a little better in the corners than the 17-55/2.8 wide open at wide angle and telephoto (although the differences are closer between these to than any of the others).

15-85 is a great lens I agree and it's a fun lens and the best lens given its range to leave on the camera at all times.  It works well indoors in close quarters so you can get the entire shot at close range and outside it still has good reach.  All around great lens!

Yep.  I am pretty amazed that a superzoom like this performs so well.  Most lenses of this type really drop off in sharpness at the long end.  Not this one.  Just a good solid all around usage lens.

Mine sits on my SL1 and is my most used setup.  I have a 6D and L zooms, but for most uses I just grab this combo.

Re: Best kit lens I ever had!

Hi,

I am also using this lens with 7D, the results are good in daylight. In the night and in a big group when lens is on wide anlge, the results are displeasing. Only when zoomed into the subject the image is sharp. I am using external flash 430 EXII. Not sure what is missing

Any suggestions most welcome

Thanks

Can you post a couple of examples? No way to help without seeing what the problems are.
