Loving the new 10-18mm STM
2

I'm really enjoying the new 10-18mm STM. It's got to be one of the best buys in crop lenses. I've used much heavier body/lens combos on full frame, but this light little lens is a joy to use and gives excellent results. My wife and I strolled around downtown for their "First Friday" art walk. I caught a few nice scenes, but like this one the best. Shot with a 20D that was given to me.

Totally agree with you. bought the 10-18mm lens a few days ago and have found it to be excellent at it's price point. I wanted a wider lens for my 7d mark ii but didn't want to spend silly money after reading a few reviews I decided to buy the 10-18mm and am really happy so far.

I'll agree with that. I love shooting wide and this lens seems like a great value at $300.

I got a brand new copy of this lens.  I feel the zoom barrel is not as tight as my other EF-S lenses, e.g. 17-55mm and 18-135mm STM.  What do you think about the tightness of the zoom barrel on your 10-18mm?

I like this shot.  This looks like Falls Park on the Reedy in downtown Greenville, SC.  I have taken some great photos at this park.

I have been thinking about getting the 10-18 STM.  This thread is about to push me to getting it

i don't have ef-s lenses, mine are all "L" lenses but i do like some of the ef-s lenses, such as yours and the legendary 17-55 f2.8. ef-s lenses construction is a bit loose and dust may get in there. the joints are a bit loose and you can feel the looseness with your hands. but the iq of some of the ef-s lenses are as good as "L" lenses, such as 17-55 f2.8. i have played with some of these lenses and they are very good for budget lenses. have fun and post some more interesting shots, please

That's the place. I live right outside of Greenville. This was taken in January...that scene will look prettier in a couple of weeks when the trees fill out again.

The zoom barrel on my 17-55 is sticky, not smooth - makes zooming in video difficult. Is yours?

My 17-55mm in still quite new, so the zoom barrel is not very smooth.  I don't know if it will be smoother after a period of "break in".

Re: Loving the new 10-18mm STM

My copy has a smooth action and short throw, but of course the zoom range is small as well. No difference in tight-not tight compared to my other STM lenses.  Oh, and I love the lens overall.

Mine is well broken in, but remains sticky in middle range. Fine for stills, but problematic if zooming during video. Unfortunately, I think this is par for the course with many (if not all) 17-55s.
