Olympus PEN E-PM2 anyone? (IMGs)
1

Hi, I just bought second hand Olympus PEN E-PM2, replaced the kit lens with M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42 mm EZ 1:3.5-5.6 to gain portability ... and I am very pleased with this piece of equipment, even tried to mount briefly the tiny cam to the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150 mm 1:2.8, interesting setup.

E-PM2 users, what do you recommend, like / dislike about this camera?

The menu system took some getting used to. Would have also liked a few more physical controls.

I will most likely upgrade to an OM-D model in a few years but I'm not displeased with it.

The more I used it, the more I liked it. I wasn't sure I would like the little add-on flash but it worked quite well, didn't get in the way, and didn't use separate batteries.

The reason I sold it was that I bought a O-ME E-M10.

Just some envy, looking at the flowers on the ground, unless they were indoors.

I liked the EPM1, and with the extra button and touch screen, the EPM2 should handle quite well, with excellent photo quality similar to the rest of the current line.

I have one I use in place of a compact point and shoot. I usually leave the Lumix 14mm on it. It's very compact, has good IQ and is compatible with my other gear.

Congratulations on your acquisition! Nice shots. It's a nice camera. I used one for a year and my wife still has it. She absolutely loves it. It is small and LIGHT enough to always have it with you and its takes good photographs. It's real nice kit with the Panasonic 14/2.5.

Congrats.

I like mine, a white refurb from Olympus.

It is fun to use and travels well in my backpack with either the Panasonic 14mm or the Olympus 17mm.  For a camera to always have with you, it is hard to beat.

The IQ is tremendous and it is very handy.

On the other hand, controls are limited and the IBIS is not very good.

Re: Olympus PEN E-PM2 anyone? (IMGs)

Suggestions
Turn on the Super Control Panel in PSAM modes.
For PSAM modes turn off Live Guide and Live Control
Turn on 1/8 second delay.
In the drive mode select from the modes with the diamond icon. This allows the delay to be used.
Turn warm colors off.
In iAuto the 1/8 antishock is not available.
You can assign an operation to the function button. I have mine set for HDR right now but it changes depending on what I am shooting.
You can set an operation to the record button. I have it set to magnify view.
You can assign an operation to each one of the directional controller buttons. I had the flash button reprogrammed to manual WB.
I don't bother with My Sets.

Re: Olympus PEN E-PM2 anyone? (IMGs)

If I recall correctly because it lacks a mode dial to engage My Sets on the E-PM2 requires depressing and holding down a button. I never bothered with it. Yes, here is a link:

Re: Olympus PEN E-PM2 anyone? (IMGs)

I got one of these cheap last Christmas with two lenses which I sold. The camera was great but, in the end, really not all that pocketable even with the 14mm f/2.5 Lumix attached. I sold it last October and use a Sony RX100M2 as my grab-n-go, pocket camera.

The IQ was great and I like having a touchscreen but no built-in flash and the loud shutter made me trade up to the Sony.

Re: Olympus PEN E-PM2 anyone? (IMGs)

The E-PM2 has been discontinued and as from what I've read it is not to be replaced, which would be a shame. It is really cool in my view to have a camera this small when combined with a pancake lens, but as an ILC still capable of taking larger and various lenses. My wife shoots hers with the 14-42 kit lens (95% of the time) for a light and pocketbook-able (LOL) camera, but she just asked to borrow my Sigma 60 for a special shoot. I expect her results will be every bit as good as I can get with my E-P5. It's that kind of flexibility to take a larger specialty lens combined with the portability when combined with small, light lenses that makes it a worthwhile camera. But if people like Rees are typical in comparing it to a compact then I suppose its market niche has shrunk.

Anyone know whether in fact Olympus has stated it will not be replaced?

Re: Olympus PEN E-PM2 anyone? (IMGs)

I just don't think it sold well enough to compel Olympus to make another model and there wasn't that much to differentiate if from the E-PL series.

In the end, it wasn't really what I needed to compliment my m43 bodes for a smaller camera.
