Please help with some EM5 MK II clarifications
1

I have typically been a Panasonic only consumer. The only Olympus camera I have used before is the modified E-PM2 that I use for astrophotography. Therefore, I haven’t done any experiments with the Olympus Autofocus and I am not that familiar with the menu items.

I could really use some help on the following questions. I will try to post a setup video for the camera in the next couple of days but I want to make sure I get everything correct first. Thanks for your help on this.

1. Is there a way to use a half press of the shutter button during videos to refocus the camera? I have it working for stills but I can’t figure out what combination of settings works for video. I have the back button focusing working but I really would like to have the option to use the half press shutter button as well like I do with my Panasonic cameras.

2. Is there a way to enable a specific ISO for Aperture and Shutter priority mode in the movie only function. It will only let me select Auto ISO there right now.

3. What does “Default ISO” mean in the menu? When does it use the Default ISO value? If it is using Auto ISO I thought it would always adjust the ISO according to the scene. When would it need to use a default value?

1. on the E-M5 (not the Mark II) I shoot video in S-AF with manual touch up. I can refocus during the video by half pressing the shutter button or by tweaking the manual focus ring.

2. if you shoot your video in manual mode you can set a fixed ISO.

Thanks for your help.

I believe a lot of people shoot video video in Shutter or Aperture priority mode with a fixed ISO because they are controlling the lighting and they don’t want the noise to vary in the scene. Is there no way to do this with the EM5 MK II?

Personally I always shoot in shutter priority with Auto ISO so it works great for my needs. I just want to make sure I don’t tell everyone that it can’t be done if it can. I couldn’t find a way to do it with the EM5 MK II. However, it works great on my Panasonic cameras and that is what most people are accustomed to for video.

I usually shot my videos in Shutter priority (at 1/60 sec) and let the ISO float. If you fix the shutter speed and the ISO then only the aperture can change and I'm not sure I would be happy with the depth of field constantly changing during the video. That might look even worse than the Continuous AF jumping around in a video?
