Pen-EPL5/14-42/40-150, £339; good extra lenses for my GX7/20mm?
Feb 15, 2015
A UK big box retailer, Curry's, has for a while now been offering the Oly PEN E-PL5 with two zoom lenses, as shown on this page:

I have a GX7 with a kit 20mm, and also sometimes try to use my old 35mm zoom lenses with it, but with mixed results. While I don't think I would use another M43 body, I did wonder whether the E-PL5 kit with 14-42 and 40-150 represented good value for those two lenses. Most of my pictures are landscape, (distant) wildlife, and architecture/historic sites, sorts of thing. Record shots, really. My 20mm is very sharp and is a useful field of view, but I was thinking that those two zooms would add a wide range of field whilst still being carrryable on a day out. My alternative thoughts are the Sigma 60mm (which I'd also have to use with a reduced pixel count, on occasion, to achieve a narrower field of view for some of the landscape and wildlife pictures), and some or other 12mm or so for buldings.
Many folk here will have those Oly lenses and could I ask whether, considering they are zooms, people have been pleased with them? Are they very light? I would imagine they're primarily plastic, is that so and if so, do they feel rigid and reasonably robust?
Incidentally, Curry's also offers the E-PL6 with similar zooms but with "R" designation; that's on offer at £399:

Could anyone say what Oly changed with the R version?
Would be delighted to see what people think,
