Following timer remote... works well with Alphas (a7II/a7, a7S and a7R) for any length of long exposures, via Multi/Micro USB. Regards

I would suggest using Quality RAW+JPG to more easily review your subs.

I DISAGREE with having Long Exposure NR set to ON.  I highly recommend turning all forms of noise reduction off and handling noise reduction in postprocessing after aligning and combining your subs; otherwise, you will lose faint nebulosity and other stellar objects that can appear as noise to any in-camera noise reduction setting.

While most experienced don't go for LENR, it is a useful feature for most.

FYI: LENR being ON is a default on a7II.

I use LENR quite often and quite like the results. Note: Bubble nebula posted here... was taken with LENR ON. Regards

I see no advantage to going above ISO 1000 with the a7II. You will get the same noise if you push in post, and more DR:

I would agree with you Jim; I probably should have set a7II to ISO 1600 [at least for this thread] which is also a defacto astro standard.

What ISO do you suggest for a7S for astro, I am planning on doing a 'Settings' series on that as well. Regards

2000, Look at the yellow curve in the above post from me.

At the transition from ISO 1600 to ISO 2000, the a7S ups its conversion gain. You want the high-gain setting, thus 2000.

Re: Sony a7II Settings for Astrophotography

Very nice summary of settings.  Thanks for posting.

Question:  What, if any, changes would one make for a A7R?  Looking this over, I cannot see anything that should be different (though obviously IBIS is not relevant).

Nathan, I don't see any difference in astro settings for all alphas (a7/a7II, A7S, A7R), minor ISO adjustments being one exception, which end up being personal preferences. So, yes set your a7R pretty much the same. Yes, IBIS is 'not' relevant to astro. Regards

ISO 3200, 6400 and 12800 work quite nicely with the A7S.

Do you have similar data for the Sony A7R?  I have both the A7R and A7S.  I suspect the A7R is quite similar to the A7/A7 II, at least from my noise evaluation of Darks off both.

I normally shoot astro-imaging at ISO 1600-3200 with the A7R but have pushed it to 6400 on occasions with a major increase in noise.

Re: Sony a7II Settings for Astrophotography

Hi Brian

Thanks for posting the setting for astro with the A7II.

Question: Why do you suggest Live View Display off?

Thanks in advance
