Re: Canon 350D wont turn on!?!

Years ago I had a similar problem with a 350D (XT where I am) I took it to Canon and a circuit board was replaced, but back then it was under warranty.

Today, I think you'll probably be better off buy a new camera.

I'm afraid it does sound like you have bent some of the pins in the CF slot. The best way to find out is to pop the card out and with a penlight look down the slot, it will be fairly obvious if any are.

The problem comes because the design of the compact flash interface puts the power and ground pins close to each other and compounds it by making the longer than the surrounding pins so it's easier for them to get bent. If power and ground short then it usually takes out the main board. This give the symptoms you seem to be seeing. The only repair is replacement of the whole main board. I'm afraid it's going to be cheaper to get hold of a second hand 500D or 550D as a replacement/upgrade.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

Did you take the secondary little battery out too? If not, take that button type battery out too and see if the camera comes alive again after reinstalling both after a few minutes.

he cost

Good advice, however I recommend that you ask for a repair estimation. which is greater the repair or replacement cost.

I don't know about you but all those years I had my XT, I pulled out the CF card once to replace it with a new upgraded card. Other than that I never removed the card ever. Years before that I had a Power Shot A10 and I don't believe that I ever removed the CF card ever to the day it died.
