NX30 problem, advice requested

I purchased an NX30 last Spring/early Summer and shortly after setting it up, it malfunctioned. The camera would play back photos on the card but declined to take any new images. The screen was dark like the lens cap was still on the camera. I received a replacement from the vendor and it worked well until yesterday when a similar problem occurred. The screen displays information which seems to indicate that the lens cap is still in place, e.g. shutter speed time is 30 plus seconds. The screen displays data but no image in capture mode. Any thoughts on cause or cure?

I'm on vacation right now and don't have the warranty information. What is the standard warranty?

Do you use only one SD card of the same type/manufacturer? I had similar issue with NX30 and lexar card NX20 used it without issues).

I had a similar problem when using Shutter mode. At times the camera would default to 30 sec exposure, but I pressed the shutter thinking I am was on 1/125 or something, and the camera gives the read-out you report above.

Can't tell you how many times this happened to me with a group of people lined up for my shot.

I had to remove the battery, turn on, set speed, then all is ok.

Just careless shooting on my part.

After all these years, I am just like a kid, I see something and pick up my camera and shoot - without checking my settings - my very bad habit. Because of this I leave my camera on Auto when I put it in my bag.

Wished Samsung would make the initial speed at the fast end of the range.

Remove the lens from the Mount and check if the shutter is stuck. N. B. You should see the glass on top of the sensor, not metal curtains.

Try formatting the card in camera. I have had issues with cards if they were formatted in a different camera first (NX200) and also check firmware of camera - had an NX30 do exactly what you describe when we put the 50-150 on it. Firmware update solved the problem.

rest of the story

thanks for the advice. I did remove the 30mm prime lens and saw that the shutter was stuck in the closed position. Fortunately, after several days, this self corrected. I don't know if the problem is lens specific.

anyone else have trouble with this optic?

No trouble with it here, actually can't remember ever hearing of someone having a problem with this one. Maybe before I joined the forum.

Re: rest of the story

Stuck shutter happens sometimes and is not generally related to lens attached. You can nudge it a bit of it is really stuck but there is some mechanical reason: dust /dirt, humidity and/or sudden temperature change, etc. Worst thing is that this usually happens on vacation away from service centers so some gentle "persuasion" can help.

Hi, this is an out of topic question. I own Samsung NX30 camera and since you do too, I am just wondering if you are experiencing the same problem? The "Wi-Fi" features of my camera do not work anymore, it's directing me to a "Korean Browser". For example, if I were to e-mail myself a photo using the camera, it wouldn't get passed the Korean browser, I have no clue what it says. It seems to me that these features are no longer supported which sucks a lot!
