Panasonic CM1: OS upgrade possible?

I believe this one comes presinstalled with Android 4.4. Can it be upgraded to Android 5.0 (Lollipop)  by the user?

Has Panasonic released any official guidance on how it intends to support OS updates?

Re: Panasonic CM1: OS upgrade possible?

There is big probablity that it will not obtain such a update. I had Android Camera from samsung and it got only minor update.
I incline to think that Panasonic will not offer update, because they would have to adopt all they customizations to Android 5 which could be nontrivial task.
Personally - as Android enthusiast - thanks to prohibitive price of 899 Eur I would buy this camera only after Android 5 was released for it and raw format support confirmed (with Android 4.4 it is already obsolete in time of its debut)

Somehow I think it would have been a difficult sell otherwise for a $1K premium cameraphone to run on 4.4. Good sign that they're working on the 5.0 upgrade like all the other handset manufacturers.

Now it will compete more on its inherent value in the market, which will be interesting to watch. Definitely a premium product, but a lot of photographers are willing to drop $700 on an iphone today already, so why not?

microSD card encryption?

An interesting feature of the CM1 is that the camera can be instantly turned on, even if the phone was asleep and you are using password protection. This means you can take photos anytime, but to review photos you still have to enter you password just like you would normally. A great security feature really.

Now Android supports full disk encryption so the photos on the internal memory should be automatically encrypted if you activate encryption on your phone. Wonder if Panasonic encrypts data on the microSD card or if that data is stored unencrypted at rest?

"The people who made your phone or tablet might have included a method to encrypt external storage (like the SD Card)"

Something to keep in mind for future iterations of the CM1's version of the OS.
