Samsung Tablet, which one? I need your opinion.
2

I'm interested in buying a new Samsung Tablet. I already own an older model Samsung, so I want to stick with Samsung.
That being said, I am stuck between 2 models.
As a photographer, which do you recommend I choose?
1) The 12.2" Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro.
2) The 10.5" Samsung Galaxy Tab S.

The 10.5" Galaxy Tab S has a better display, that shows many more colors and better resolution.
The 12.2" is bigger with a great but lower resolution display, but larger display.
Should I get the larger display? (better to show my work)
Or do I get the smaller but higher res. display?
Thanks in advance for your opinions!

That is misleading.

They both have WQXGA displays, 2560x1600 pixels, so I would say resolution is the same, although the 10.5" has more PPI (pixels per inch) because the screen is smaller.

Thanks for the reply CAcreeks,

The Tab S has it has a "brilliantly bright Super AMOLED screen that is crisp and vibrant."

The 12.2 Tab Pro does not have a super amoled screen.

The reviewer of the Tab S said "I was particularly impressed with the colour reproduction on this tablet: it supports 94% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut, which is 21% more than standard LCD screens".

I am leaning towards the 12.2 inch, but for photography, will the Super Amoled screen be that much better????

Good question. They both looked good in the store, but I did not compare them side by side.

Holy guacamole! Amazon sells a a black 12.2 used for $273. We paid more than twice that for the 10.1 Note, with useless (for us anyway) pen.

I have the Note 10.1, 2014, specs wise, I think it is the best out there. Have taken it with me on a few travel trips, love it to watch my own movies on the plane. Resolution, colours and speed all very good.

New 12.2s have been going cheap, which may tell you something. It depends on your eyesight to some extent. I'm short-sighted, and often take my glasses off to look fairly closely (about 12") at my Tab S 10.5, which still looks superb, and is a great size for handling. If you prefer viewing further away, the 12.2 might be better, but it's a big beast. The Photo colour mode on the the 10.5 gives very accurate colours. The default Adaptive mode can be a bit too much at times.

where did you see it for $273.00 used? I want that deal! I see $361.00 for a refurbished one.

Am I missing something?

It's gone now. It was a private entity, apparently not a company, selling it for under market value, or else the item was in bad shape. I do see $362 currently.

Samsung has buttons out of order (back swapped with menu) so if you have other Android devices, you get confused.

I have the 12.2 tab pro and the tab s 8.4 (using it right now).

the 12.2 is big and heavy. It's really a laptop replacement if you get a Bluetooth keyboard. Honestly I don't notice much of a difference between the screens for brilliancy or color.  I notice the 12.2 operating slightly faster for say typing on the on screen keyboard.

the 8.4 is a 1 handed tablet (for holding it) while the 12.2 is a one armed tablet or sit on your lap tablet. I know you are considering the 10.5 not 8.4 but still good review compared to the 12.2.

unless you intend to use the 12.2 as a digital picture frame always sitting on a table, go with the s 10.5

Personally speaking the 10.1 is too narrow to sit between my legs, in "laptop" configuration. Maybe a woman could keep her legs that close together, but I can't. The 12.2 seems more comfortable for lap holding. I wish it had been available when we bought our tablet.

Both are too heavy to hold on top of one hand for long periods of time. As might be an 8" tablet (don't have one, can't say).

I have and love using the Tab S 10.5.  I download Full Frame RAW files from my Sony A99 camera to the Tab S.

I use "Photo Mate R2 and "RAWDroid" to view my RAW files on the Tab S.

When cabled to my camera I can use my Tab S to review the files on the camera w/o downloading (can also delete files on the camera with the Tab S).  The functions and capabilities are amazing (it was a stiff learning curve for me but amazing).

I looked at the 12.2 and quickly walked away for my purposes.

For you it is a personal choice (Good Luck).

Definitely the tab s 10.5! My jaw dropped when I first checked it out in the store (when viewing some of my own hi-res cloud based photos in the amoled-photo mode). Like you I was interested in the 12 inch tab, but I walked out with the 10.5. The colours and contrast are wonderful, some of my sharpest photos even appear 3D-like. I was very surprised when I experienced that phenomenon for the first time

I was also pleased to read that my enthusiasm is backed up by facts; http://www.displaymate.com/OLED_Tablet_ShootOut_1.htm
