My 75mm F1.8 Zuiko a year on
13

I thought I would add my thoughts to the forum on my 75mm Zuiko which I have now had for a year.

May I say outright if I could only keep only one lens from my collection based on the quality of its delivery this would be the one. Its nicely balanced, doesn't look like the short telephoto it is, its surprisingly versatile (more later) is super sharp and the f1.8 allows use in dim lit situations you just wouldn't normally think of trying.

My passion is architecture and buildings which I can stop photographing - traditionally the province of wide angle lenses has now a new kid on the block and it copes brilliantly. I have a flickr page for the 75mm lens, please take a look and see for yourself how the 75mm zuiko handles the subject for me. https://www.flickr.com/photos/phils--photos/sets/72157649604852339/

I cannot recommend this lens enough.

Good eye.  Good site.  Can't say I'm all that crazy about all the vignetting however.  You do have a unique approach to architecture and I rather like it.

Yep, the 75/1.8 Oly is one of my best lenses of ANY of my camera systems.

Now if Oly or Pany would come out with a 150/2 of similar optical quality . . . .

Lovely work, phil; terrific recommendation for the 75…

…in the right hands. You sure know how to make the most of it even when you are forced out of the built landscape into the wilds of farmland!

Hi biggles266

I try not to spend too much time post processing much happier using my time to capture the right shot.

Happy to share with you and others, my post processing, it is in Lightroom 5.6 with the occasional use of DXO viewpoint 2 as im a sucker for symmetry.

In lightroom I am indebted to Erik or archeogeolab and use a recipe of his, here's a link to the thread.

Re: My 75mm F1.8 Zuiko a year on

Hi there, all the flickr posts with either the EM-1 (relatively recent acquisition) or EM-5 I have a Panasonic GM1 and even tried it with that though whilst the images are good it just doesn't make sense as a combination.

Glad you like the images

Thank you spudmuncher, I have just invested the 40-150 and that's a terrific lens too, I have written a review on that one too http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3786188

Possibly the best non-portrait set I've seen from the lens. Well done!

an exceptional lens

I agree with your assessment. I've had my 75mm f/1.8 for about 10 months. I continue to be surprised with the impressively sharp images it delivers, especially wide open. It's my favorite zoo and portrait lens.

Optimist ...

Olympus already have one in 4/3 mount that could be pressed into service should finances permit.

Anyone reviewed it with a 4/3 to M4/3 adapter?

Works great. Here's a test shot from when I first received the E-M1, with the EC14. The small-dot af option helps with fine focusing busy settings.

Well done! The lens is sharp and seems to be an excellent focal length for architectural detail. You have a good eye and I especially appreciate the framing of the shots. What camera do you use?

Great pictures. I did London with an ultra wide a few months ago, nice to see a very different approach.

Like Bobby J, I find the vignetting too aggressive.
