amipal's 365 project for 2014
1

Hi,

Last year, I started a 365 project. This was together with thirty other people at my local camera club. In all, I think only fifteen of us finished the year.

Through the year, I found myself becoming more confident in my own abilities. And not necessarily by sticking to the "will a judge think its good" school of thinking. I've also become happier with my LR development processes, and am not afraid of diving into black and white.

98% of the shots were made with m43 equipment - I started the year with my trusty GH2 as my main body, ended it was the stalwart GH3. I also upgraded my 14-140mm to the newer version, and invested in an Oly 45mm. Despite that, I'd say a majority of my images for the year were taken either with the PL25mm, a focal length I've become very comfortable with in the process.

If you'd like to take a look, the finished project is on Flickr:

Lens breakdown (vol, perc):

  • PL25mm 2,677 60.50%
  • 9-18mm 610 13.79%
  • 14-140mm MkII 459 10.37%
  • 45mm 314 7.10%
  • 100-300mm 137 3.10%
  • 20mm 90 2.03%
  • Unknown 79 1.79%
  • 14-140mm 34 0.77%
  • iPhone 6 25 0.56%

(Unknown includes iPhone 4, Fuji XF1, and adapted lenses)

Thanks,
Paul

Really fun project. We should all do something like that, at least once.

There are also other photography projects that I will eventually do. Like, only one shot a week, only one focal length (I've done that one extensively, both with the 20 and the 14), and finding all the letter of the alphabet.

Great images, BTW.

Congratulations on completing the project.

Having started PAD projects more times then I care to remember, I know how difficult it is to maintain the disciple, but as mentioned in an earlier post, it is a fun project. Finding scenes/subjects that are photo worthy every day can be a pretty tough challenge in itself.

Your photos show lots of diversity and creativity.

Best wishes.

As someone in Paul's camera club who only made it to day 34 before quitting, I admire his determination! His shots aren't bad either

Thanks Martin! It certainly gets the mind going, trying to do something different each day - works the creative muscle!

Cheers,
Paul

Thank you very much for your comments! It was tough to keep going some weeks, and I lost count of the numbers of days where it got to 11:30pm and I hadn't taken anything.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Jay!

I should probably put the group link up itself that the rest of the camera club contributed to:

I have the benefit in and around Brighton of having quite a varied landscape. So I can dive into the city for some urban street shots, but have the seaside to the south and the South Downs to the north.

Cheers,
Paul
