Pardon my ignorance - what is a "Grote" zoom?

Dutch for "Great" I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

grote=big/large or size. in this particular case it's large. or in english long/super zoom

There was an image Canon posted with a mysterious camera called the "Grote Zoom" a couple months back. Nothing solid about it, only this picture on the Dutch Canon site, but the picture seem to since been changed.

Okay, thanks for clearing it up. Google translate says it translates directly to "great". Yes, obviously in this case in means long. Not sure how accurate Google translate is with basic words.

It's a mess in dutch. Still amazing that it works. It does allow you to read and understand foreign texts. A skill that takes years to master.

This lot look like a case of look no EVF. Is a long zoom top end without an EVF really going to compete?

This has been mentioned a couple of times before in earlier threads, but the small disclaimer at the bottom of the picture says "some images are for visualization purposes only".
Clearly, the G1 X II and G7 X in that picture are the real camera's, so the disclaimer must mean that the image of the high zoom camera is some sort of mock up. Otherwise there would be no need for a disclaimer. So, I wouldn't base any conclusion upon that picture. It may or may not be the real thing. You'll have to wait until it's announced, whenever that will be.

For those who don't understand Dutch: it's also there on the Canon UK site, which is, indeed, in English.

Well I always thought they'd use the separate EVF that thr G1XM2 uses on this camera - would make sense to use that on two models.

My prediction is that it will be the s130 with at least an 8X zoom and the old 1/1.7 sensor.
