Grote Zoom? No new 1" sensor Canon compact?

I saw 5 cameras released, but none mentioned sensor size and nothing about an enthusiast 1" sensor. So we can assume that it won't be released anytime soon? Or more to come? Seems they'd announce all at the same time. Maybe the SX710 is the grote zoom?

The SX710 is certainly not the grote zoom. It offers nothing worth upgrading over the existing SX700.

Canon needs to announce something. I'm seriously considering the FZ1000. Canon should announce this new grote zoom as well as an upgrade to the S120, eg. a 24-240 constant f/2.8 pocket cam with a good quality 1/1.7" sensor. Olympus has shown it can be done. I hope Canon isnt sleeping.

edit: hmm maybe not. 5.6cm thick (Stylus 1) is a bit too thick for a pocket..

I'm rather unimpressed myself. Nothing to compete with RX10/FZ1000. I'm probably going with G7X. S120 is falling apart (had a bad falls, LCD cracked but usable, auto focus seems to be off). G7X down to $500 on eBay now.

Frankly, I haven't seen anything that would make me want to upgrade from my SX260HS.   Particularly with 20 MP sensors and very long focal lengths without an EVF.  I understand it's a numbers game for the marketing, and I suppose, a lot of the less sophisticated buyers; but it's not my cup of tea.

The show opens tomorrow, so there's still a little room to hope for the Grote Zoom.

Yeah, I think they're just getting their basic range out the way first.  Surely there's more serious stuff to come...

You had some bad luck initially with the build, but I still think the G7X is a good option - if 100mm serves most of your shooting needs.

well....don`t hope to much from Canon, they are champions of dissapintigs in the last years as a compact cameras producers but what can we expect when the market falls apart?

I post again a comment which I posted in another thread:

I think how it was years ago, DSLR`s only for connaisseurs, now days, those compact cameras with big zoom are for us, the connaisseurs who don`t take pics with the smartphones

CP+ (February)

Perhaps the 1" Grote Zoom exists, but is too high-end to be announced at CES.

The CP+ trade show is in February. If it exists, it could be announced then.

I don´t really need DSLR camera. But I about get what you mean. Well, I won´ t be one of these guys. I want something, and if I don´t get it, I don´t get different thing. I drop it altogether. So they sould do some darn good stuff to not go bankrupt

Pardon my ignorance - what is a "Grote" zoom?

Dutch for "Great" I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There was an image Canon posted with a mysterious camera called the "Grote Zoom" a couple months back. Nothing solid about it, only this picture on the Dutch Canon site, but the picture seem to since been changed.

Grote zoom means Large zoom. It was mentioned on Canon websites as a follow up "expert" camera to the G7x and G1X II, and is believed/hoped to have a 1" sensor and a larger zoom range, like 24-200 or even more. Nobody knows if/when it will be released.

It's not only there on the Dutch site, also on the UK site, the German site, etc...

The language is Dutch, and that's where I first saw it posted. (Canon NL). It's also no longer there. At least, not on the original page it was found. It now looks like this:

It's still there, but nearer to the bottom of the page. Here it is in English:

http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_Camera/expert/index.aspx

The words used on that page are "high zoom":

"We are dedicated to providing premium image quality and control in stunning, compact bodies. The next model in the Expert Compact range will combine a large sensor and high zoom for outstanding images at a distance.

Okay, see it now. It's in the flash video.

Okay, thanks for clearing it up. Google translate says it translates directly to "great". Yes, obviously in this case in means long. Not sure how accurate Google translate is with basic words.
