The EPM2 and the 17mm pancake fit in my jacket pocket.

The fact that this combo fits in my jacket pocket becomes a very good thing when jackets become necessary.  I have read that the 17mm 2.8 isn't a very good lens, but I like what it gives me.

Here are 3 photos I took today on a shopping trip with little expectations since December in the Pacific Northwest is a study in overcast gray.

Driving to town, an unexpected light source appeared.

I got to town, and the sky was putting on a show, so I took a picture.

On the way home, I pulled over and took this shot.  The two birds are eagles.  How do I know?  They circled around and landed on a tree above my car.  RIGHT over my car.  I cursed the fact that I didn't have a telephoto lens. They didn't care. They made high pitched calls to each other that made that clear.

A tiny bit of cropping is required for the third image because I straightened it in post.

Yes, the 17mm is good enough. Enough detail to tell us the 2nd shot was taken in Mission. That third is a beautiful scene to mark Xmas eve. Must be nice country out there with the eagles.

I like the little lens on a PEN too.

But what to do with the combo when summer comes?

an even better combo: E-PM2+Panny 14mm. Smaller, sharper, faster AF. It's a great P&S alternative, I prefer this combo to my RX100 which is now mostly used for video.

I cropped the town shot, and I think it looks a bit better.  I wanted to mention that I totally missed the exposure on that shot, and even with raw I couldn't make it look good, but I used Corel Paintshop where it uses hdr of one raw with 3 different exposures, and it looked better.

I got rid of one lamp post.

And now a re-post of the 3rd image that had a bit of gray not removed after straightening. Yes, I suffer from something that has a name no doubt.

Just the photo.

It renders v. well. Not sharp at the edges at 2,8 but if you use it at the other apertures it's perfectly acceptable. And with the E-PM2 it0s very cute, and AF fast enough. I am very happy with them, because I don't use a bag, and I can take pictures of people easily. Nice to see that you use for landscapes too.

The 1st one is great and could be even more dramatic by playing with contrast...

I played with contrast of the sunbeams in the forest which is what a previous poster on this thread suggested, and it is a stronger image, but the trees are kind of scruffy, and I don't even know what scruffy means, but I'm not sure I like it.  Tell me what you think.  Is this a good picture?  It's a bit messy to my eyes.

Interesting light phenomenon but ....

My favourite combination is still my E-PL5 with my 12mm F/2 prime attached, not as compact as the pancake, but for shooting landscapes its hard to beat.

I love the light coming through the trees! Do you ever gets lens flare while shooting "directly" into the light?

I sometimes do notice a bright sport but I need to shift my composition to compensate or to avoid it.

If you ask me, I like it a lot, but don't forget we are talking about art and not maths, so it's not about a "better" or "worse" picture  but what YOU like more
