Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM will is work on a 300D

Will this new lens work on my old 300D? Will the IS part of it it work as well? May upgrade the camera at some point but want to see if I will make use of the 300D enough to warrant buying a newer model. I assume the lens that came with the 300D will work on the newest version of that camera as well as the lens above?

Thanks

Perry

All Canon EF and EF-S lenses will work on all Canon cameras that uses the EF-S mount, the first being the 300D.

The 18-55mm lens that came with the 300D will work on any Canon camera that uses the EF-S mount, from the 300D through the 7D Mark II.

If you do upgrade the camera body to a more current model, I would recommend getting the kit with the 18-55mm IS STM lens as well.  It's not expensive and the optics are much better than the original 18-55mm non-IS that came with the 300D.

The 24-105 STM does not appear to be a particularly good lens.  I'd recommend against it, especially at the $599 price.  The 18-55 STM may be your best bet.

d'oh!  I thought it said 24-105 STM, but it was really 55-250 STM.

The 55-250 STM is a very highly thought of lens.  The old 18-55 will work on new cameras, but recent lenses have better image quality.  The new 55-250 would be a great pick.

I haven't heard much about the 24-105 STM. What is the problems with it?

There aren't many reviews, but the digital picture did one and image results are just ok.  Per the sites's ISO crop tool, image quality is not even better than the old 28-135 across the range.

AF and IS will almost certainly work, but I'm unclear about all features of STM ???

(but I'm not all that informed about STM ... mostly for quieter video, but my impression was it also cooperated with newer bodies to improve AF ... or not?)

The Canon EF-S   55 - 250 f/4-5.6 STM should work well on your 300D. Naturally it will give a better image on a newer model but it will really improve the images on a 300D. I use this lens on a 20D - T3 & 60D. It works great on all. I used the original 55-250 IS on my 300D and was impressed. All three versions of the 55 - 250 lens are excellent as far as image quality.
