Re: DoF calculations accept around 3 pixels blur as being sharp.

To be honest, I was expecting a deeper dof at f2. Your calculations are correct and the distance from the subject (1.5 meters) is reasonable.

Though I don't share your opinion on 1 point: your logic about the circle of confusion. I am not a pixel peeper because I look the image at a normal distance to see if it is sharp. Even a big print would be sharp (if you look at it proportionnaly further). If I buy a camera with an high resolution sensor, my images will not become less sharp.

Anyway, I think the f4 advise is justified, 6.5 centimeters is a bit too shallow I admit to consider that the portrait is completely sharp...

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses.

75mm f/1.8 must be better choice but it's expensive for occasional use. I'd rather invest in 40-150mm f/2.8 lens since it could be more versatile and useful.

According to the above input, I understand it couldn't be any wrong to grab 45mm f/1.8.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Thanks again.

You are correct. You can't go wrong with the 45mm. At that price point it's a steal. I never leave home without mine
