Purchased Open Box NX300 - Camera Won't Power Off - Please Help?

Hello,

I was the previous owner of an nx2000 camera, but I recently decided to pick up a NX300 because of a great price I found on Crutchfield. It was listed as an open box for $330 - with the 20-50 lens and Lightroom.

I just got the camera in and decided to try it out, but I noticed that the camera doesn't power off correctly. When the camera is turned on, it seems to operate normally, but when I flip the switch to power it off, the screen goes black, but then it keeps flashing the Samsung logo off and on, off and on. It just keeps blinking with the Samsung logo. The power light also keeps blinking.

I've tried two different SD cards and multiple lenses, but neither makes any difference. I thought maybe the firmware was an issue, as it does seem to be outdated, but I don't even know if the battery is charging correctly when I plug the camera into my laptop to charge it, because it just keeps blinking with the Samsung logo.

I know I can just return it to Crutchfield, but I'm hoping that maybe there is something that I'm missing that I can try to possibly fix this issue.

If I remember correctly I think updating to the latest firmware will fix this. A forum member has put together this site to help everyone keep their cameras up to date: http://samsungnx.herokuapp.com/

I had an NX300 a year ago with the same problem after purchase.

You definitely need to update the firmware.

PS: Samsung cameras seem to have some issues with first firmware version.

I had an NX3000 with low resolution jpegs during playbacks months ago.

As long as it will power on, just install the Samsung ilauncher on your computer. It will recognize the camera, check firmware download new FW to the camera for you. Then you go into Menu on the camera to last section camera info and select upgrade firmware.

Could not be much easier and most likely this problem will be gone !

It looked like I was going to have to make a return to Crutchfield, but was pleasantly surprised when the firmware upgrade completely fixed all of the issues that I was having.

The firmware was the first thing that came to mind, but I just couldn't understand why just having an outdated firmware would cause such an obvious issue. I also couldn't understand how this issue wasn't noticed by Crutchfield, if they really tested the system beforehand.

So thanks again everyone. I've been reading these forums since I first picked up the nx2000 over the summer, but it is nice to finally be able to join the conversation.

Probably helped you get a bargain as Crutchfield probably did not realise nowadays firmware completion is often scheduled some months after the release of a camera.

OMG it sooooo matters who you get when you call Samsung for technical support!! i have been trying to fix my NX300 for over a year, ready to throw it out cuz it wouldn't shut off and i couldn't use it. I got Joshua on the phone finally, (as others told me to mail in the camera and pay $190 for a fix with no guarantee)... Joshua walked me thru the update whcih was NOT easy to do. I'm happy to help anyone of you with the same issue - you have to first install the update to your camera, but then you have to open that update from the camera device and UPDATE from that point - both the firmware and bodyware. The bodyware update was the one that fixed the issue. And you must select that as the update, the camera will not find it automatically! Please reply if you need assistance. I am soooo super happy i got Joshua on the line today! Thank you Joshua!!

find some firmware update instruction and update to the latest firmware,it might fix the problem,i think.and if it wont,theres a problem with the power switch,you have to fix it,with ifixit.

check this if you really know theres a problem with the dial and the switch
