EF 100-400L MkII - test photos
3

I collected my new EF 100-4000L MkII from Park Cameras this morning and then went down to the Arundel Wetland Centre to do some quick test shots with my 7D MkII.

Some of these shots used a Canon 1.4x MkIII extender. They were shot in raw and converted to JPEG in Capture One using just the default settings.

The IS in the MkII is very impressive, while outdoors I could barely hear it, indoors it's more noticeable, but not quite as loud as that in the EF 70-220L f/4.

I think I am going to really enjoy this lens!

Mine is in transit and these samples worry me as they all seem OOF.

Will you try to AMFA the lens? If you do, please report back.

Thanks.

Yes, I agree, and I hope AMFA is all that's needed. I will test drive the MKII before purchasing.

Thank you for taking then time to post. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this lens can do.

I'm just curious, did you have a chance to MFA the lens yet or are these your first ever shots? Just asking because most seem a little OOF to my eye.

Thanks again.

Nailing the focus on the eye of a moving bird has very little to do with AFMA.  It's about taking lots of pictures and deleting most of them.  These samples are not a valid subject for showing AF accuracy.  Yes, a few of the pics have missed focus, but some are soft due to using too slow a shutter speed.

That said, all of these shots are respectable, you can only notice the softness if you pixel peep.

Can any early users say whether or not this new 100-400 is a true 400 at the long end or 385 which is about what version one is according to testers. Pops
