24-105 STM test results

Hi,

Not a complete review yet, but I noticed that FF test results are available on TDP.

It is now possible to compare with the Sigma  or ancient 24-104 L .

Regards, Sandor.

Seems like it gets beat by the good ol 24-105L except at 24mm.  Given the White Box prices for the f4L, I can't imagine picking up this STM lens.  That could change though if/when they implement the 70d video autofocusing into full frame, and when this lens becomes a packaged kit lens and the price goes down.  At that point it could be pretty attractive.

Pretty good when we think about it's price and weight. half the price of the canon L (retail), and 2/3's the price of the Sigma. almost 1lb less the sigma, and 1/2lb lighter than the L.

I suspect in the next go around of the 6d bodies we wont' see it bundled with the 24-105L anymore.  It's certainly looking like this is canon's "cheap kit lens" of the future.

............that is of course is assuming you can live with a maximum aperture of 5.6 on the long end.

For this range lens that is extremely slow and really unusable in low light without flash.

By the way I have the Canon 24-105L AND the Sigma 24-105L.

The Sigma is is sharper both in the center and much sharper in the corners wide open.

It is also a full one half stop brighter than the Canon in "T Stop" which is the actual light

transmission of the lens.

The Sigma is noticeably brighter at F4 with all other settings being equal.

I love the Sigma lens! Yes it is a little bigger and heavier but it balances extremely well on my 1DX.
