There's just that one detail... all of it!

I had camera #099 on the try out program, and then bought one right away pre-release because I couldn't be away from it. I have been shooting about 100 images per week since June of this year. I had to chime in and say that I am still amazed at what this camera can reveal, not just in minute detail, but in color gradation and accuracy. It's simply astounding in IQ. The 30mm lens is close to perfection in edge to edge sharpness, and I never have to worry about dust on the sensor. Think of it as and use it like you would a large format camera, for well thought out and carefully controlled compositions, and you will love it.

I modified and affixed a Hoodman display magnifier to make focusing easier and just leave it attached. It's still an easy camera to carry around, but most of the time it is attached to my tripod as I go light stalking. I don't use it to shoot anything higher than 100 ISO. I have other much more capable cameras for that (like the Sony a6000), but this is my go to for landscapes, subtle colors and low to medium contrast scenes. I have also really come to appreciate the layout and UI, with zero complaints.

You essentially get a medium format quality camera for $1000 and it's very portable. The required Sigma Pro software for raw conversion is a PIA, but it gets the job done. Small price to pay for such beautiful beautiful images. If you can drop a K on a special purpose camera, I think you will not regret it.

Thank you for your thoughts. I am looking forward to getting a DP3 Quattro . . . and hopefully a Quattro DSLR, eventually.

Re: There's just that one detail... all of it!

I just received a DPQ2 from a Black Friday special from B&H so I have not had enough time to make much of an evaluation.

So far:

  1. Very impressed with the build quality.
  2. Concerned about how warm (bordering on hot) that it runs.
  3. Initial battery (fully charged) drained remarkably fast.  Made run time on my DP3M and DP2X look very good.  But, the battery may require cycling several times to reach max runtime but how fast it drained last night does have me concerned.  I probably took about 15 images but did a lot of review of the images plus searching through the menus.
  4. When using a automatic flash (have a Metz 20 C-2) with WB set for flash and manual metering say at 1/500 f/5.6 the display darkens to the point where you cannot recognize what you are trying to photograph.  This flash works very good on my DP3M and DP2X and the screens do not darken like the screen does on the DP2Q.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Im sure you have already figured this out, but you can turn off this behaviour in the menu. Then the image on the LCD will always have proper brightness.

Only if he has updated the firmware or the camera has came with an updated firmware.

I have updated my firmare and I still can't find the feature to maintain brightness on the LCD with connected flash. Could you be so kind as to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!!
