7D II Tracking in Waterskiing
6

Got to shoot at a Water-ski Tournament this weekend just gone.
Only my 7DII's various AF modes, but totally stoked with it's tracking performance.

All shot with a 100-400mm, and a mix of 400 & 800 ISO.

A little camera shake in a few seem my biggest issue.
Forgot to pack the Monopod.

Came from a 50D to the 7D Mark II.

Cheers.

Great pics.  How did you set the camera up?  What AF selection, what Case and did you shoot AI Servo or something else?  Thanks

Yes AI Servo, Mostly AF point expansion (Manual Selection)
and AF point expansion (Manual Selection, surrounding points)
Did try AF zone, but felt the focus points were jumping to places I didn't want them to be.

Only changed off Case One on instance & not sure what I tried.

Cheers.

iTR would not be activated in expanded. So most shots were using Case 1? What was the 1st and 2nd AI Servo priority set at? Factory setting which is Equal or did you set them to Focus?

Yes all mostly Case 1 every thing else at factory. Haven't explored much else yet. -- Phil Canon 50D, A550, T-90, T-70, A-1 Kodak DX4900, P850

If anyone has been reading my posts I have been saying this camera is not that difficult to use if you keep it simple, especially staying out of zone AF until you practise and get the hang of it. You shot water skiing with basically factory settings and and the look very good. Erratic movement and as the skiers go side to side there is acceleration and deceleration.

Nice shots. You did a great job.

Re: 7D II Tracking in Waterskiing

Shot similar stuff again last weekend.
Wondering what suggestions are if best Case to use.
Case 4 maybe?

Subjects, approach & depart rapidly & remain a bit static in distance at each turn.

Agreed, though I wish it were 0C.  This morning as I was driving to work it was -11F.
