Need a reminder/refresher - Questions on Metz MZ-44AF
Nov 30, 2014
For those of you with the Metz 44 (for Samsung), I have a question or two for you. Sorry about these questions as they may appear a bit novice, but I woke up this morning, having a complete brain fart about a few scenarios.
OK - to begin with, most cameras (including Samsung), when you attach a dedicated TTL flash - and let's say you are in Program or Aperture Priority Mode - and turn on the flash, the shutter speed usually defaults to 1/30 or 1/60 (depending on camera). I know when I connect the little flash that came with the NX300, the camera does this (in this case 1/30 default).
But when I connect my Metz 44 AF (which I haven't used in awhile), then I connect it to the NX300 and turn it on, the shutter speed doesn't adjust on the camera and in my case (the room I'm in), it just shows a shutter speed of 1/8 of a second (as if no flash was attached) - and I have the ISO set to 800.
Now the Metz TTL indicator flash is on, and it will fire when the shutter button is depressed. But right now for me to adjust the shutter speeds and apertures I need, I have to set the NX300 to manual mode and make adjustments there.
Yes, I have the latest Metz firmware update and yes, the unit is situated firmly on the camera (all the way in and locked). And yes, I've turned the camera off and on a half dozen times (and flash setting in the camera is set to fire every time). But with my NX300, the shutter speed doesn't adjust when in the Aperture Priority mode (which is does when attach the little one that came with the camera).
Just to check that it wasn't the flash, I also attached it to my EX2F and the camera responsed the way it should of, setting a default shutter speed of 1/45 sec (in Aperture Priority Mode). So it seems to be an NX300 scenario only and I'm wondering if I've missed some internal setting on the camera. The lens attached is the 16-50 PZ.
What gives here? What am I overlooking. Usually I'm good about these things, but is it just a case with 3rd party flashes on the NX300?
Thanks...
