Remove the grip on e-pm2

I´d like to mount a custom-made grip on my Olympus e-pm2, has anybody managed to remove the original one in a non-destructive way ?

Thanks

If your custom grip is going to be larger than the one that comes with the camera body you might want to consider building up the existing grip. I bought a third party grip for my E-P5 and although it provided a bigger grip than on the camera body it still was not shaped as I would like. I stumbled across a product called SUGRU that is a self adhesive rubber and I placed this on my grip and built it up to the size and shape I wanted. Let it cure for 24 hours an BAM a truly custom grip that makes holding my camera a joy. Arthritis makes holding anything difficult but at least my camera is now a comfortable hold!

I didn't see a way to do that when I had one, so I just ended up with a half case, which made a very big difference in handling, and protected the body at the same time. You can get some very inexpensive ones on Ebay (full cases but I just used the bottom), and it might be worth giving one a try.

Thank you for the suggestion. The idea was to carve a deeper and narrower new one out of wood, but I´ll keep you idea in mind.

You might look for a local camera repair shop that would take the original grip off for a nominal fee?

Re: Remove the grip on e-pm2

It turns out it´s rather easy to do:

Insert a knife blade under the rubber part (from one of the short sides) and lift gently (*). Once the rubber part is removed 4 small screws are exposed, undo those and the whole grip comes free.

(*) The rubber is held in place by a weak adhesive and four tabs (2 on each long side) engaging in the hard plastic part, it is very easy to put it back.

Re: Remove the grip on e-pm2

I’m using a half-case with my E-PM2. Works fine, though it makes the camera a bit larger.  My reason for buying the camera was that it was so compact. Definitely not comfortable in my hand without some kind of grip. The case came with the camera (bought it used on eBay), so it was a ready-made solution.
